Fire Boulder CO

Forums:

Hi all,

Fire started yesterday in Boulder CO at 1AM. It is called the sunshine fire and is at beginning of mapleton and sunshine canyon. Where the old hospital use to be is where they stop access up the road to sunshine canyon. Fire was at about 60 acres and in very rough terrain. About 20 percent containment yesterday. You could smell smoke in the city yesterday and I drove up flagstaff and took some pictures.

Can see fire retardant on ridge. Fire is in back of ridge. Suspect human causes...

THey had 2 blackhawk helicopters going to wonderland lake and picked up water;

IF you look close the helicopter is dropping a load of water...

From the news this morning:

"50% contained - Evacuation of 426 homes in Sunshine Canyon area to remain in place overnight"

Wishing folks well up there and hoping for 100% containment today.

By 6pm yesterday it looked all but out. They put a lot of resources on it yesterday. Good work BoCo.

I love to see black hawk helicopters used this way, hoping the area gets a little spring snow.

Big wet storm coming later this week. Hopefully the wind stays down before then.

Sunshine Fire is 100 percent contained as of last evening. Looks like it was a man made fire. It is a heavily used trail. We have not had measurable precip for about 6 weeks now. The foothills usually have snow on them till end of march/beginning of april and there is no snow left on them. Been watering the trees/shrubs/grass of the outside of our house for about a month now.  March is usually our snowiest month and we had zero snow. As Ned says there is a storm coming though many peter out before they get here...

Hopefully this is not the beginning of a long fire season...

PS: took the pictures above from the parking lot of the flagstaff restaurant...
