Is the fig newton really a "cookie"?

Forums:

Seems more like a "pastry" to me.

Newtons (cookie)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Newtons are a Nabisco-trademarked version of a pastry (biscuit in the UK) filled with sweet fruit paste. Fig Newtons were the most prominent (fig rolls filled with fig paste). They are produced by an extrusion process.[2] Their distinctive shape is a characteristic that has been adopted by competitors, including generic fig bars sold in many markets.

Until the late 19th century, many physicians believed that most illnesses were related to digestion problems,[3] and recommended a daily intake of biscuits and fruit. Fig rolls were the ideal solution to this advice. They were a locally produced and handmade product until a Philadelphia baker and fig lover, Charles Roser, invented and then patented a machine in 1891 which inserted fig paste into a thick pastry dough.[4] Cambridgeport, Massachusetts–based Kennedy Biscuit Company purchased the Roser recipe[5] and started mass production.

The first Fig Newtons were baked at the F. A. Kennedy Steam Bakery in 1891.[6] The product was named after the city of Newton, Massachusetts*, and contrary to popular belief, has nothing to do with Sir Isaac Newton.[7][8]

The Kennedy Biscuit Company had recently become associated with the New York Biscuit Company, and the two merged to form Nabisco—after which, the fig rolls were trademarked as "Fig Newtons".[9] Since 2012, the "Fig" has been dropped from the product name (now just "Newtons").[10]

I'd guess the Cookie Monster would say: NO

Cookie Monster is a Muppet on the long-running children's television show Sesame Street. He is best known for his voracious appetite and his famous eating phrases, such as "Me want cookie!", "Me eat cookie!" (or simply "COOKIE!"), and "Om nom nom nom" (said through a mouth full of food). He eats almost anything, including normally inedible objects. However, as his name suggests, his preferred food is cookies. Chocolate chip cookies are his favorite kind. In a song in 2004, Cookie Monster revealed that, before he ate his first cookie, he believed his name was Sid or Sidney.[1][2][3][4] Despite his voracious appetite for cookies, Cookie Monster shows awareness of healthy eating habits for young children and also enjoys fruits and eggplant.

He is known to have a mother, a younger sister, and an identically-designed cousin (who ironically does not like cookies). All three share his characteristic navy blue fur and "googly eyes." He also has a father, who appeared in a Monsterpiece Theater sketch promoting energy conservation, water conservation and environmentalism. Both Cookie Monster's mother and father share his enormous appetite and craving for cookies. He and his Sesame Street friends are popular motifs on T-shirts.

The Dead should have been on Sesame Street.

So now they don't say Fig anymore? Why, did they remove the little bit of actual fig that was in the other version?
