A few words about MSG Phish Shows...

Forums:

Not to slight the ever-progressing 'Bakers' Dozin' Thread.  More of a travel advisory.

Don't know if it's just for this Phish run or S.O.P. for all events,  but the security getting in is borderline airport TSA.  They have you take all the stuff from your pockets and put it in a little basket,  then the metal detector & wand. Dude even patted down my socks first night.  I was late getting there, so they had plenty of free time.

But second night we were timely, and it was about the same.  All of this makes for delays and long lines.  I saw no hassles re: puffing in the venue,  and saw a few people smoking cigarettes without any problems.  However,  I spoke with one guy who said they took his bag o' weed because "there was something metal in the bag"  which maybe was a screen or roach clip or 'bat', no idea.

Same guy remarked that the person nearby at security checkpoint put a metal pipe (weed not plumbing) in the basket and they let it through.

Also,  Beers are 14 bucks and water bottles are 6 bucks.  But there are many water fountains in the venue.  Bring an empty H20 bottle or cup and fill up for free.

Don't expect to eat at the venue;  the hot-dogs out on Seventh Avenue are a better deal.

This was the case my last visit (That free DeadCo thing in '15).

Red Rocks has upped their security procedures. It's quick but it's empty your pockets, search the backpack, wand for metal, have a good time.

"......just a come on from the whores on  Seventh Avenue..."

MSG's media security checkpoint has been like that for years. All cameras have to have all lenses unattached and they check each to see if anything is "hidden" in them. There have been occasional full body checks too. Even though MSG is the world's most famous arena, they really don't want it to become more famous because of some evil.

As for the food within, after the remodel they really upped their game. Some of the food upstairs is on the par with some of the best eateries in NYC. Expensive but very tasty.

I've brought everything (vape pen and more) in each night with no issues. Put the pen in the basket and walk through, no one has said shit to me or my other friends.

Tickets are still on sale for every show as well. I know someone who picked up a ticket outside last night for $20. Anyone who says these shows are sold out is an idiot.

"Beers are 14 bucks"

Haven't been in the place since the last GD run in '94 and this certainly won't encourage me to come back.  And I don't even drink anymore.

No problems here.   Def better than it was last December - that was BRUTAL.  I spotted an extra side entrance open on Friday night that I've never seen before... like they just setup an entrance at what are normally exit-only doors.

Multiple waters and a bottle of Vodka made it in with me each night so far.    And my pockets were so stuffed I need 2 trays for all my gear.

It's a pleasant surprise to see Phish at the garden in nice weather.   The Beergarden and the tables on 33rd are great for pre-show people watching and hanging out!

This run is really topping all expectations so far...

Spicy chicken sandwiches section 119!

They have been, but they're crap at the box office unless you're lucky on catching a re-release.

Anything decent, especially pairs, seems to be in high demand and short supply outside The Garden.   Even Sunday night.  I sold an extra 200s level in the low rows for $80 in literally seconds.

Phishheads are all about location location location.

If you dont know what to crotch then you should have it taken away. They allow vape pens and you can also still get plastic flasks in. It has actually gotten easier than the old pat down days, technology has made them lazy.

Stock Your Ride and Hotel Room Pronto !

Stu and jambone like phish

Good info- will barely bring anything on my to speed process

water bottle is a great idea, thanks

glad you made some shows!

Hi Ro --

Hope you and your posse have Wonderful shows.  Those guys have the place all lit up like never before !!  If you've got 'em,  bring some "3-D glasses" that you'd get at the 3-D movie.

Gingerman still has the finest Beer selection in the area,  but after 5 PM it's a bit crowded,  and has that Midtown office party crowd.  Of course, they are open until 4  AM,  so there's post-show potential for a Good Beer.  Another place on 36th is called "The Keg" or similar ::: they have many taps,  but more of an Irish Soccer Thug vibe.

If you are camping out nearby,  Bryant Park (5th Ave. & 40th St. near Library) has all sorts of interesting Food Booths.  A bit more refined than the standard Hot Dog or Halal Kebab stuff that's everywhere.

BP is also a nice grassy, shady Tree-Filled oasis amongst the midtown concrete jungle.  All of the Trees are Sycamores,  one of my favorites.

I love Bryant Park... always have a drink at the upper patio bar overlooking the park

great place to chill and people watch

and if near fashion week, smoking hot models gliding around:)

will try to pop into Gingerman

people still use metal pipes?

Don't break when you drop 'em.

You can tap 'em empty while they're still hot.

You can throw 'em 1/2 a block in a pinch.

If you're likely to be "wanded", the ceramic bat is your friend.

look how far I can throw my pipe

Summer 1971 - driving around looking for a place to go swimming. We overstayed after the park was closed. Cop car blocking our exit as we tried to leave. He could tell we were high as all get out and offered us a deal - if we chucked away some contraband, he'd let us go. If not, he was calling in the K-9. We had actually smoked all our stash so I was nominated to chuck my metal pipe. I was over it anyway - present from a now-ex - so I gave it the old heave-ho into the canyon, and he let us go as promised.

Fun times.

Aren't both the metal bat and Vapes made out of aluminum and go right through the metal detector??  Can anyone confirm

I go to MSG a lot during the year (season tix for the Rangers in addition to shows), the vape pen  sails right through..my pax 2 would always trigger an alert...

>people still use metal pipes?<

pretty sure only on the east coast.

...and $14 beers are common at venues. don't you people get out?

the tool show at the gorge i just saw had a crazy pat down, out of your pockets deal. dude got my container, opened it, and was about to dump out 4 fatties as the crowd groaned....i took it back, went back out of line...put it in my sunglass sack under my hat and went back in....mind you. this is in an legal med/rec state....i was annoyed.

>people still use metal pipes?

I'm back in Texas now and see nothing but glass around. Even my bat is glass and can be tossed quite easily

And dropping your pipe? Does that really happen that often among Zoners and Stoners?

I mean sure we've all had an accident or two over the course of smoking careers but seriously, it rarely happens. Guess it has to do with the comapany you keep sometimes

I've had one piece I got at Warfield during the Phil & Friends "this is the time of returning" run in 2003. Many good Zoners have I shared it's bowl with. Still enjoying it this morning cheeky

Momma always told me a wood pipe always has one more hit in her

 >>>>>as the crowd groaned

Lol
