FBI Ratchets Up Investigation Into Bernie Sanders’ Wife
The FBI investigation into allegations Jane Sanders, wife of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, defrauded a bank while president of a local college is reportedly intensifying.
A state official received a subpoena for a grand jury, and the FBI interviewed a half dozen people with links to Burlington College in recent weeks. The subpoena requires the individual provide to a grand jury documentation related to the ongoing investigation of Sanders for alleged bank fraud, James Foley Jr., a lawyer representing the unidentified state official, confirmed to The Washington Post Monday.
Former trustees for the now defunct college also confirmed to The Washington Post lawyers representing Jane Sanders interviewed the former school officials to learn what they might reveal to investigators. Prosecutors have reportedly taken dozens of boxes of school documents related to Sanders’ time at the college in the past month.
Sanders served as president of Burlington College from 2004 until 2011 and is blamed for leading the school into bankruptcy by falsifying a loan application. Sanders retained counsel in June to defend herself against the allegations.
As part of an ambitious plan to boost enrollment at the college during her tenure as president, Sanders had the college take on $10 million in debt to purchase a piece of land to expand the campus.
Sanders stated in a 2010 loan application she had secured $2.6 million in promised donations to pay for the land purchase, which helped secure a $6.7 million loan from the People’s United Bank. Only $676,000 ever materialized over the next four years and the college defaulted on the loans, eventually going bankrupt in May 2016.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), fresh off his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, has bought a summer home in Vermont for nearly $600,000, according to a local newspaper.
Seven Days Vermont reports that the lakefront property on the Champlain Islands has four bedrooms and 500 feet of Lake Champlain beachfront.
Sanders also owns a home in Burlington and another property in Washington, D.C.
Sanders' wife confirmed the purchase in a statement to the paper:

Devoting new spending to eliminating tuition for all students [i.e., the socialist promise of free college tuition] involves a tradeoff with investing the same funds in targeted grant aid that would cover more of the total costs of attendance for students from well-off families.

Donald Trump Jr.’s e-mails are damning.
Just hours ago, Donald Trump Jr. released one of the more astounding e-mail chains of the entire Russia controversy. The end result is that Americans may now be introduced to the term “attempted collusion.” Or, perhaps more accurately (based on present information), “failed collusion.”
In other words, there now exists evidence that senior members of the Trump campaign tried unsuccessfully to facilitate Russian government efforts to defeat Hillary Clinton.
Going further, at long last we can now put to bed the notion that the Russia investigation is little more than frivolous partisan harassment, and it casts in an entirely different light the president’s fury and frustration at its continued progress.
As of now, we should have zero confidence that we know all or even most material facts. We should have zero confidence that Trump’s frustration is entirely due to his feeling like an innocent man caught in the crosshairs of crazed conspiracy theorists. It now appears that his son, son-in-law, and campaign chair met with a lawyer who they were told was part of an official Russian government effort to impact the presidential election. The Russian investigation isn’t a witch hunt anymore, if it ever was. It’s a national necessity.

Justice Department Defies Court Deadline To Release Sessions' Contacts With Russians
In defiance of a court order, the Justice Department is refusing to release part of a security form dealing with Attorney General Jeff Sessions' contacts with the Russian government.
On June 12, a judge had ordered the agency to provide the information within 30 days, a deadline which passed on Wednesday...
On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Justice Department had told NPR that the documents would be released by the deadline, NPR's Mary Louise Kelly reports.
The Standard Form 86, more commonly called SF86, is a very detailed form required to be filled out for obtaining security clearance for certain government positions. It's the same form presidential adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner has recently had to revise after omitting meetings with Russian officials.
Sessions has admitted to speaking with Russia's ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, at least twice in 2016, which he did not disclose at his confirmation hearing. But in June Sessions testified to senators that the "suggestion that I participated in any collusion" with the Russian government "is an appalling and detestable lie."
