^^^Good Lookout

This is the Trey / Phil Lineup

Fans YouTube page too

I didn't enjoy hearing it then and I doubt things have changed much.  They would have sounded much better with a tour of at least 20 shows under their belt.

Barely achieved "Meh".

Does Bruce still phone in his performance?

My favorite scene of that disaster was the post-show interview the last night, when the inerviwer tried to corral Phil and RMFJ spirited him away.

I loved these shows. It was a fabulous time.....

It was quite the time, and scene.

Glad we made the trip.

Enjoying this offering 5 years gone...

And wondering if we'll ever be able to gather like this again...

That long Playin' jam was nice!  I think i'll give these another shot!!

It would be nice if they could have gotten the band to do some commentary during these playbacks.  I'd love to hear themselves critique their performance and remembrance of the run.

That stuff'll be in a book or two.

during the first-show video, saw some folks in the audience that I know

also, in the intermission video, saw the Zone's own PeakFifteen several times when they were showing the GDTS segment

I wasn't expecting much from these shows, but I was pleasantly surprised by the music at the two Levi's shows I saw, and I was amazed at the glorious energy and joy in the venue overall. It was humbling, it was reaffirming, it was a real good time. And it was exactly as advertised - a celebration of the Grateful Dead.

Nothing wrong with that.

And after all the angst, complaining, opining, hand-wringing, bitching, ticketing snafu's, crying, whining, general superiority trips and everything else negative that lead up to the five shows, for virtually everyone actually involved they were completely successful events on every level.

Nothing wrong with that either.

LLTGD!!!

Have a friend that summed it up nicely.

"It was a great vibe even if the music doesn't really hold up all that well."

Wow! That Jed synergistic energy from Trey Phil & Bobby was absolutely killer!!!!!  The band was dialed!

Man, the band and the crowd was having time of their lives!

Behind stage all three nights and we had a dandy of a time.

Music was fair but the time was high, still have a half a dozen memories that wont fade away.

Looks like lots of show talkers in the crowd.

Anyway to watch this stream without the fans jumping in?

Or is it supposed to give me an "I'm there" feeling?

They should show more poolside fans.

great  link

thanks !

I thought the parts I watched were fun, especially the throwing stones jam. Phil is also turned up in the mix which makes every song listenable.

Did anyone else catch the sweaty guy with his shirt off dancing in his bedroom?

Yes, that was strange....

Yea, that was me.

Man, that was a long day.

And what a blast, to revisit that weekend!

^^^ Peak, are you talking about today, or the day (days) you sorted thru ticket requests for GDTS?  ;-)

On the PPV thr Friday night in Chicago was most pleasing.

>>>Does Bruce still phone in his performance?

Pretty sure he had an injury during these shows.  I think he was even playing stringed instruments at his shows because he had pounded the piano keys too many times.

>>>They would have sounded much better with a tour of at least 20 shows under their belt.

Yup.   Also would have been better if half the band hadn't been practicing with Mayer for the other tour before the shows.   That was a really weird choice.

Agree with Lance on quite a bit of what he wrote.  The music was good enough.  However, the crowd, the energy, and the smiles on every member of the band were amazing.   Never been a big stadium fan but it was great feeling that energy reverberate for three plus hours each night.  i do it again if given the opportunity.

Some more rehearsing and maybe a dif. guitar player may have been in order, but that first Santa Clara show had some magic both on and off stage, and the second one was a lot of fun as well.

Trey and Bruce were safe bets to sell tickets initially. They did their job well enough and probably took home a nice payday. I'm not sure who the 'correct' guitar player(s) would've been. In a perfect world, Kimock would've been up there as well, but we all know that story. Kadlecik was too 'fake Jerry' for many. Mayer hadn't fully jumped on the Dead train yet. Warren Haynes is too 'yang' (male) energy, driving away the female contingent. Jimmy Herring is too jazzy, or 'scaley' (I love the Q, but we're talking mass appeal accross the Deadhead board). Barry Sless is a great player, but not much of a frontman, and isn't that well known. Tedeschi-Trucks would've been interesting, but probably would've ended up under-rehearsed.

Trey did well in the end, but there were probably a lot of Jerry-inspired guitarists - pro and not-so-pro, thinking they could've done better.

I never understood why Donna wasn't part of it.

Trey was clearly the "right" guy for the job! He is of the same vein as Jerry in so many ways musically and personally. The torch was passed!!
