Ezra Lipp's band Magic In The Other is making an album!

Forums:

Hello Fellow Zoners,

I wanted to let you know that Ezra Lipp (who is in my personal top 3 favorite PLF drummers list) has formed a band called Magic in the Other with Steve Adams (ALO) on bass and Roger Riedlbauer (???) on Telecaster.  I've only seen a couple of gigs, but what I've heard has been stellar.  Not sure how to describe it, but the music often seems to fall in the proximate family of Steve Kimock, though that may be an unfair comparison.  Lots of well-crafted and executed instrumentals with a variety of great rhythms.  Some vocals as well.

Anywhoo....The band is hoping to record a studio album in early 2018 and they have currently started a kickstarter campaign to raise funds to record.  They need to raise almost $3,000 (of their $18,000 goal) by this Thursday, 12/07/18, to make it a reality.  It's "all or nothing," so if they don't achieve their goal, donors won't be charged.

For as little as $10, you will receive a digital download of the future album ($15 gets you a CD).  There are a bunch of rewards, including a private house concert anywhere in the U.S. for $5,000(!).

Quite frankly, I'm really hoping to be able to own a copy of this upcoming album and I'm wondering if any other Zoners would be interested in this as well.

txr could use alot more music like this. weekly sets of good jazz that are not just rearranged versions of the usual TXR bar bands could really propel the bar show scene there into something at least tolerable, if not actually pretty fun. hope to see these guys over there in the future(as well as more lipp in general). im not a big album guy so i probably wont plunk down for the kickstarter, but if they played a few shows and said "hey we are trying to raise money for an album", id have no issues putting down $25 or $20 for a show to help em out.

Daylight,

These guys have been playing a Wednesday residency at the Ivy Room in Albany.  I haven't made it to any of those gigs, but they recently played a double bill with Reed Mathis & Friends...and they are planning some sort of blow out for their last Ivy Room gig, later this month.

See you at DNB this Sunday!
