Executive Order to Modify 14th Amendment Interpretation?

Huh. So, I thought the US was all super gung-ho about its Constitution and basically treats it like a sacred unalterable document, right? And I always thought the Repubs were big into the Constitution. Yet, here Trump is saying that with an executive order he can just sign a paper and change the legal interpretation of the amendment. Soooo, does that mean other Presidents can also do this with other amendments? The 2nd, for example?

That interview is definitely on my 'to-watch' list, but I don't think it addresses my question above, which is basically (rhetorically) directed at the American right wing. If Trump can go ahead and modify the legal interpretation of an amendment of the constitution, then hypothetically, other Presidents can, as well. For example, a hypothetical future President could modify via executive order the legal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment to be interpreted as only necessary in times of tyrannical threat. In other words, not so long as the American democratic system is 'functioning', as it pretty much is now.

More of the same, get the press to cover another crazy thing trump says and distract from the pipe bombs and Pittsburgh shootings. He really has no shame. One week to go, vote for some constraints on this mofo.

Narcissists (Trump) go on a rage when drowning.

When confronted, they burn everything to the ground.

neither an executive order or legislation will ever fly - it's just more rotten red meat for the rabid base.  Gonna got a whole lot worse before it ever gets better

Interpreting the Constitution is the job of the judiciary, not the executive branch.  He is probably just talking shit, but if he is serious and orders immigration agencies to act like his proclamation has the force of law, it would set up lawsuits that could work their way up to the Supreme Court.   Who knows what would happen there, but hopefully Roberts will turn out to be a sleeper moderate like some of NIxon's and Reagan's appointees turned out to be.  Not holding my breath though.

>> He is probably just talking shit <<

Yep, just a newer, shinier object to distract.

VOTE NOVEMBER 6TH.

The tables will be turned if the house flips.

Well, that pretty much sums up my suspicions. I thought for a second that maybe there was some way the President could alter the interpretation of the amendment using an executive order. It sounded totally far-fetched Trump talking out of his ass, but I found it interesting nonetheless.

Graham to introduce legislation to end birthright citizenship

BY JORDAIN CARNEY

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Tuesday said that he will introduce legislation to end birthright citizenship after President Trump suggested he wanted to do so through an executive order.

"Finally, a president willing to take on this absurd policy of birthright citizenship. I've always supported comprehensive immigration reform - and at the same time - the elimination of birthright citizenship," Graham said in a string of tweets.

He added that he plans "to introduce legislation along the same lines as the proposed executive order" from Trump. Congress is out of session until Nov. 13

Ah, I see. They're going for the two-front attack. See how that works out for them...
