For those trying to figure out WTF JR is getting at, ......
MSNBC is shaking up its afternoon lineup, expanding Nicolle Wallace's program "Deadline White House" to two hours and moving Chuck Todd's "MTP Daily" to midday.
The changes are being made as the NBCUniversal-owned cable news channel's daytime programming has trailed Fox News and CNN in the 25-to-54 age group important to advertisers of cable news, despite growth in its overall audience.
Wallace, 48, a former Republican campaign operative who worked on John McCain's 2008 presidential run and has become an outspoken critic of President Trump, has drawn a strong following in the network's afternoon lineup. She recently signed a new deal to remain with MSNBC after being courted by CNN. Her program will air live from 4 to 6 p.m. Eastern.
The additional hour puts her up against Fox News Channel's "The Five," the breezy roundtable show that is one of the network's most-watched shows, and Wolf Blitzer's "Situation Room" on CNN.
Todd's "MTP Daily," which has aired at 5 p.m. Eastern since 2015, will be moved to 1 p.m. Eastern. Ayman Mohyeldin, a foreign correspondent who has recently co-anchored an early-morning show on MSNBC, will fill the 3 p.m. hour.
The changes take effect Aug. 17.
Todd, 48, who has also anchored the Sunday public-affairs program "Meet the Press" on broadcast network NBC since September 2014, will be adding a weekly political program that will stream on NBC News Now and the newly launched Peacock service. He will also anchor on the two services during political event coverage through the rest of the campaign season, starting with the party-nominating conventions later this month.
NBC News said in a statement that it plans to create an additional production team for Todd’s streaming programs.
The bolstered news programming on the streaming platforms is an attempt to reach more younger viewers who are not watching traditional television or subscribing to pay TV services. MSNBC is available only to cable and satellite subscribers and, like most TV news programming, appeals largely to older viewers.
That's good news. As someone who didn't have "tv" or cable for nearly 25 years until close to two years ago, I was amazed to see how Chuck Todd was viewed as being "normal newscaster". He reminds of college dorm RA who believes he's "hip", and kind of on a mini power trip. His delivery is often convoluted and difficult to follow ... as if he's always stoned. As much as I despise all of the nicknames, "sleepy eyes" is kind of fitting.
On the other hand, Nicolle Wallace is typically on point and her delivery way more articulate and easy to follow than Chuck. Occasionally, she does "over talk", but by and large she's far better than Chuck and is well adept at political analysis.
Chuck Todd seems to think very highly of himself, and I'm not sure why that is. They should move him to the middle of the night, IMNSHO.
Nicolle Wallace is probably the most solid talent on MSNBC right now, by which I mean she comes across as much more grounded than most of her peers on that network. That said, if I had to choose between Wallace and Katy Tur, I'd go with Tur in a heartbeat.
i've always had a strange attraction to her, which is why i brought it up. and yes turtle, of course i remember. so much butt hurt and crying on those threads . haha haha. love y'all.
FOM, that you would even mention the name of an actual objective journalist in this thread is a disgrace to journalism <<<
pbs newshour is one of the only vestiges of respectable, non opinion based journalism left on television. thank god for jim lehrer<<<
As much as I respect and believe Judy Woodruff to be an "objective" & respectable journalist, I can't help but wonder if:
a.) there is such a thing? ... do we not all have biases?
b.) if not, why not lean toward full-on investigative modalities? For example, can the House and the Senate both be "right" regarding the impeachment? If not, and the Senate has been intentionally derelict in their duties, then why shouldn't journalists adopt operating assumptions along these lines in so far as posture pertaining to line of questioning? Not suggesting they ought to presuppose having an inside track to the truth, but these are roads that need to be explored in full. In this context, does Judy Woodruff hold back too much?
I kinda liked Chuck. Seemed less like the normal pretty face on TV and had a different approach. Not surprised to see him be relegated to a different spot for those reasons.
Also, I find Rachel M to be as bad as Fox news hosts. I can't get through 30 seconds of her show without wanting to GTF out of the room. She's not helping anything.
