Was it sold out ?

Clapton's tested positive for covid and has postponed shows.  I'd never see him at this stage of the game in light of his outspoken disinformation, but wish him well and a speedy recovery.

https://wmgk.com/2022/05/16/eric-clapton-test-positive-for-covid-postpon...

If even he wasn't being a fool about covid, I still wouldn't go see the shadow of the inspired guitar player he used to be.

...and his acoustic stuff puts me to sleep.

Go for the guitar playing, stay for the racist rant

Basically the same show I saw in 2019.

I've seen him so many times over so many years, and he always does pretty much the same thing.

Except for that blues only tour in '94, when I was lucky to see him at the Fillmore Auditorium.

THAT was the real deal, and he amazed me, he floored me, he lifted me OFF the floor that night.

He was brilliant that night, and that was the best show I've ever seen at the Fillmore.

And that's saying something.

But I'll never see a regular Clapton show again.

I would have killed to see him on Roger Waters Pros n Cons tour but you could not pay me to go see him these days.

^ caught the tour in Hartford,, some serious shit.

Caught many a clapton tour, and would be happy as fuck to catch him again but alass I am priced out just like I am for the Stones + McCartney.

Tours that stand out in memory (to the best of my) were that Pro's n Con's with Waters - a 78 in New Haven - an 86 in Hartford -  joining the Stones at Atlantic City and Shea Stadium in 89 -  94 Blues Tour in Hartford (Portnoy is a mutherfucker) - the ARMS tour at the Garden - Cream reunion at the Garden, quite a few more. Nobody can touch his style or tone.

Hope he's thu the covid bullshit quick and back on the road killin it soon.

my dad took me to the Meadowlands for that Pros and Cons show in 1984.  I was 13 years old.  I remember one full set of Floyd tunes.  Melted my 13 yr old mind!  but yeah, today, no interest in Clapton

Except for that blues only tour in '94, when I was lucky to see him at the Fillmore Auditorium.

I just hung that poster up in my office today. That was indeed a special night.

Clapton's set at the Crossroads Festival in Chicago in 2007 with Derek Trucks and Steve Winwood was a real standout set that was not the typical latter day Clapton set list.

The best "regular" Clapton show I've seen was when he toured with just a four-piece band, with him, the excellent Nathan East on bass, Phil Collins on drums & a keyboard player. I don't remember the year.

There was no fluff, nothing soft or layered with that band, it was just straight up raw rock n roll and it worked so well.

The first time I saw him was in '77. I mention that because I always look for a reason to post this photo, the first rock photo I ever took (and the only one that came out halfway decently from that show).

"No snow, no show"

Those were different times...

I loved when Jerry did Lay Down Sally, probably my favorite Clapton song. And Jerry did it better IMO.

Very Nice Shot Lance

Lighting makes the pick guard look like a white strat, but I believe that's Blackie he's workin on. That guitar had the most magnificent tone,, it was like,, fucking perfect.

 Jerry did Lay Down Sally>>>

Also turned Lonesome & A Long Way From Home on his 1st solo album into a great jam vehicle, isn't a Clapton tune, co-written by Delaney Bramlett & Leon Russell. Keep on Growing on Layla from the mid-80's was a fun song.

Eric Clapton cancels shows after testing positive for COVID

Shot I took from 5th row center @ Hartford Civic Center 86 Tour with my ol Konica. Security was a fucker, I was only able to click off a half dozen shots, they came out ok. Blackie out in full force

Didn't we cancel Clapton a few months ago?

LOL LOL LOL

Cancel Clapton hahaaaa zoners may have their heads stuck pretty far up they ass, but not that far.

Those who now disregard him never fuckin got him in the 1st place, the poor saps.

Music is it's own religion, and the blues it's own seperate religion from music. Not everyone can comprehend it.

That fucker can still sizzle a blues guitar. Got Boards ? Me do, and I've never heard him play a shitty show.  His tours with Derek + Doyle are The fucking Grail.

Ras that's my issue with Clapton. Too perfect. Smooth. No warts. Sometimes warts add some grit and soul. Perfect can be boring.

But agree he still can play.

Someone mention the Blues tour ?

talented guitarist, technically speaking

just not a blues man

a clever forgery, perhaps

Well said, Bss, and I think the same could be said of John Mayer.

yes mike

Mayer is another very decent songwriter

also seems to know his way around the fretboard

LOL LOL LOL LOL

Me + Buddy Guy disagree with your assessments.

Really guys, stick to whatever it is you think you know something about, cuz you don't know shit about the blues.

Clapton Is God

He earned that moniker before Cream for Christs sake when he was still in Mayall's band.

Really, there's no need to let the public at large know what shit fer brains you truly are.

> Clapton Is God

You can have your god, Ras, and your condescension too. I prefer a mannish boy to teach me about the blues.

British "blues" (or, more correctly called blues rock) is literally and fully based in imitation.

This is a stone fact. Lol even Joe b would tell you that outright.

Maybe consider wearing that Clapton is God shirt to church next week?

But I really don't think buddy guy needs anyone to speak for him

my.02 on this

Clapton is a great blues rock guitarist, but not god.  someone draws conclusions on the wall..someone else takes a photo of it, whatever.

he's not even the "best" blues guitarist of his generation..that would be mike bloomfield.

he's not even the most "creative, flamboyant, stylistic, trend setter of his generation"...that would be jimi hendrix.

he's not the best "jam/space" player..that would be mr garcia.

he doesn't have any country bending skills like clarence white, didn't innovate the instrument. he just plays it real good.

he's not even close to the abilities of the great unknown players like roy buchanan or danny gatton

he's not the best songwriter/sideman, subtle fill player, that's probably bob's wingman robbie robertson(you know, the guy who caused eric to re think his playing)

and he sure aint no hubert sumlin.... and he aint even the best former yardbird..that would be jeff beck

he hasn't broken new ground or made a significant contribution to music since 1978?(except as a fund raiser)

while he's a survivor and a great british blues player..there are NO british players that are as "good" as the american ones.

and the tone of the lace sensor pickups from the 90's is pretty terrible and i think it has tarnished his sound and reputation as too clean and polished.

that said i've seen a few clapton shows through the years and i've been satisfied enough, but wouldnt go looking for anything new to happen.

Precisely. Sterile tricks with zero style

basically he's the tony hawk of the guitar world

> my.02 on this

Nice takedown, manofpeace. But that was more like a nickel's worth at least.

Hey now fellas, I'd be doing a disservice to the community if I didn't call you on this one - Clapton don't play the blues.

That's just a fucking moronic statement. You may not like his style but rest assured, the man plays the blues.

Making assinine statements is a huge part of zoning. I remember not too long back some dip stick said something about Jimi not being all that. So don't worry, you got company, lotsa sticks in the zone.

Company is good to have. You ought to try getting some sometime, Ras.

Mikee mikee mikee, getting all defensive,  is it any wonder I rejected my own nomination of you ?  Just own it bro -

You made or agreed with what is probably the most assinine comment ever made in the zone, a list that includes the likes of slacker mind you,,, that ain't no small feat.

Think about that for a minute.

The Jets suck.

I've gotta admit While My Guitar Gently Weeps is probably the single best piece of music the Beatles ever made.

So then I do get something of a kick out of watching Prince basically treat it like a used dish rag.
