Eight dead, 300 injured at music fest

Forums:

What a tragedy.  People go to music fests to have a good time, not be crushed to death.  Sounds like a fucked up nightmare.  Vibes for the victims and survivors.

He should have tried the old "Time to play everybody's favorite fun game Take a Step Back".

Does it seem odd that there were so many cardiac arrests? Maybe some seriously bunk drugs were going around?

wow...terrible

sad :(

too much

too fast ?

I once saw a girl get her arm broken being pushed through the doors that were trying to open up at a general admission Dead show in Waterbury in 72.

Who at Cincinnati also comes to mind.

Lots of inconsiderate assholes go to concerts.

>Does it seem odd that there were so many cardiac arrests?

Yes. Could be  that it's a combo of bad drugs and sausage fest crushing.

If the Covid don't get ya the Concert Crush/Cardiac Arrest will

I think you can have cardiac arrest from being crushed.

The wife just reminded me of the Dead show in Buffalo 90 when so many bleacher dipshits hopped the wall to field level where we were, making enjoying the show pretty much impossible. Shoulder to shoulder.  So we bailed out climbing up into the bleachers ourselves and enjoyed the rest of the show. Dead concert assholes are some of the biggest assholes out there.

>>>Does it seem odd that there were so many cardiac arrests?<<<

everything is bigger in Texas.

Except libraries.

It's a sign of how out of touch I am with contemporary music, but when I first read the performer was Travis Scott, I thought for sure this was a C&W festival.

"music" fest?

"Except libraries"..good one.

"...see, all these people up front are getting horribly smashed!"

What a disasterous tragedy.

Was it when they found out Warren wasn't gonna play

>>>>Maybe some seriously bunk drugs were going around?

The twitters are saying someone was injecting people.

So I wonder if tonight's show (2 of 2 scheduled) is/will be cxld?

<< someone was injecting people

Dumb rapper asses,, too tough to pull off.

Deadheads would just spritz you with a water bottle spray infused with liquid L as you walked by

Damn I miss those summer tours

After seeing the venue in '89, the architect of the Riverfront Arena should shoulder some of the blame for the WHO incident

The twitters are saying someone was injecting people>>>>

A “needle” wielding assailant suspected of injecting at least one person with a possible opioid may have sparked the panic that killed at least eight people and injured 300 others during a stampede at rapper Travis Scott’s concert in Houston, authorities said Saturday. The tragedy happened Friday at NRG Park when a mass of people among the 50,000 concertgoers at the sold-out show “began to compress” to the front of the stage at around 9:15 p.m., sparking mayhem according to Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña.

The preliminary investigation found a security guard was jabbed in the neck while he was among the fans packed into the park for the first of two nights at Astroworld, a festival Scott founded in 2018, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said at a Saturday afternoon press conference.Police have not yet interviewed the guard, Finner said, but medical staff that treated him said he was administered Narcan, a drug used to revive people who have overdosed on opioids, and they saw what looked like a needle mark on his neck.

According to these comments on Reddit, the crush happens more often than you think.

Could be another case of Negligent homicide

Travis Scott has a history of encouraging concert crush. It's as if  Live Nation handed him a loaded gun..

Had the concert been stopped sooner, the medical emergencies could have been addressed. Reports are that medics couldn't  reach the victims because Travis continued to rev up the crowd even after he and his stage crew were informed that concert goers  were dying.

Same here when I first heard of him, which was (I have no idea how long, given the Covid time warp) a while ago.  Maybe I saw a headline of a story I definitely wouldn't read?

Masked Singer?  A Kardsahian Konnektion?  Gun at the airport?

Dunno.  But I imagined one of those New Country dudes (more knit hat or baseball than Stetson (Son)).

BTW, same feeling upon reading "Shailene Woodley".

Maybe I'll Google her (when I'm on the clocksmiley).

 Fuk live nation

yep ^

how soon before they "rebrand"?

Dead Leper's Colony?

>>>Fuk live nation<<<

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Easy to talk, from the outside.

And I'm not defending Live Nation. I know more about Live Nation than all of those reading this put together, and believe me when I say that I'm no fan of LN. I'm just saying that shit like this can & has happened at all sorts of shows over all the years, including Hallowed Bill Graham Presents shows.

Should more have been done? Should more precautions, especially with the history of this particular performer been done?

Probably, but would other promoters have done those things? Have they in the past with this performer? And more importantly, would it have made a difference? Maybe, maybe not.

How many of you have been in the middle of a crowd crush? A REAL crowd crush? Because I've been in MANY, over MANY years, and I can tell you that despite honest, professional efforts, it ain't so easy to control as it is to criticize later.

But it's soooo easy to be above it all and talk about what SHOULD have happened, after the fact.

You all sound like politicians.

And that's not a complement.

Ultimately, I'm not commenting on this event so much as I'm commenting on how this is just another example of how we're all so certain of ourselves these days, so desperate to be right, to be above it all, to know BETTER than, while having ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA what we're talking about.

It's a bad habit, and we're all in it these days.

I've been in several a concert crush and as a claustrophobic person, I'm outta there ASAP. Back of the floor at any dead show circa early  1980's is where you'd find me.

having said that, folks are absolutely liable for what went down in Houston. There is established science on large crowd fluid dynamic physics, and it IS manageable and some one blew it. Big time.  And they will and should  pay.

Don't understand why anyone would go to a Travis Scott concert...but that's just me.

I was in front at a show once, sitting down....didn't feel too vulnerable, though.   A young Jorma was sitting directly in front of me, playing an acoustic....I felt very safe.

Lance, given Travis Scott's history encouraging irresponsible and dangerous fan behavior at his show  you really think Live Nation should have promoted his concert?

You think he will find any promoter to put on one his concerts ever again?

The closest I ever came to dying was actually my first dead show at a small hockey rink in Billerica MA. It was a last minute add to the tour and the people working there had no idea. GA show we lined up early and it kept getting tighter and tighter. Then came the point where you couldn't get out if you wanted to. The waves would go through and you would switch from your feet being off the ground to space opening and falling forward. If you dropped to the ground you were done, because people wouldn't have a choice about stepping on you. Then they finally opened the doors. They didn't even know people where crushed against them. The first 1000 or so people just flowed in. They couldn't even take tickets. My friend got caught on a center door jam on the way in and it took him a while to get off it.

Learned an early lesson that served me well. It can happen anywhere. I saw it starting again on Castro St during Halloween one year and knew to get out before it got bad. A bunch of people died at Love Parade in Berlin because they made people leave through a pedestrian tunnel.

Lance

you completely Sound like a politician

Yes I know You have a Lot of Experience and know more about the Inter-workings than a lot of us

And I am free to express my feelings and opinion that live nation sucks

But you still sound like you're on a pulpit on your high horse looking down at me

You do not have a babbling writing style but it's extremely likely I've been going to shows longer than you have

I have no idea what I'm babbling about

But I do hope they are sued and held liable

After all it's all about the Benjamins
