That's because the President is a Republican.  He gets to choose the nominees.  If the Democrats are in a minority in the Senate they can't stop the appointment on their own.  It used to take some of the minority to get someone on the Court, but you can thank Harry Reid for setting the precedent for that not to be necessary anymore.  You can't say that you weren't warned.
