Ed Abbey

Forums:

Died on March 14, 1989. On the 34th anniversary of his passing, here's a remembrance from someone who knew him. Jim Stiles. https://www.canyoncountryzephyr.com/

“ If America could be, once again, a nation of self-reliant farmers, craftsmen, hunters, ranchers and artists, then the rich would have little power to dominate others. Neither to serve nor to rule. That was the American Dream.”

One of the great American writers for sure and an all around interesting dude.   One of my personal favorite authors although some of his views on immigration and POC are troubling and caused a bit of schism within the Earth First! movement.

Recently finished "Finding Abbey" by Sean Prentiss. "The Search for Edward Abbey and His Hidden Desert Grave."

I enjoyed it.  Peacock (Hayduke) called it "one of the best biographies about Edward Abbey ever written."

Ken, that's part of what Stiles is writing about. Various interpretations of Abbey's words. Some say reading his early essays is quite troubling.

Slickrock, thanks very much for posting that. I think it's an excellent piece.

I hope your Dad and Ed are resting in peace...or raising hell, whatever fits...
