Easy Rider at 50

Forums:

Good article about the film and the impact it had on the industry.

I was 13 in 1969 and couldn't get in to it due to the R rating, so I asked ny dad to take me.  He agreed, and it took me years to realize what a concession that was for him.  He hated it of course ("what a waste of time") but I was fascinated even if I was too young to understand all of its implications.  He passed away just over a year ago at 92.  Thanks dad.

I was eleven. I saw it at an Air Force base theater.  About that same Patton was out.  The base theater changed movies every week. Movie night once a week every week .

Thanks for posting this.

Same here Thom, lost mine last year. Week short of 92.

Thanks Dads.

I've got an idea. Let's go outside.

I was slightly involved in the promotion of the sequel “The Ride Back”, like 10 or more years ago. (It was in production for several years prior to release trying to gin up investors.) It flopped harder than a salmon on concrete.

My favorite part about the first one is actually the Byrds album that came by way of the movie. The extended/rereleased version has some really incredible song takes that hadn’t seen much daylight since the original.

From the opening with The Pusher , Steppenwolf....

I took my portable cassette player into the movie with me and recorded all of the songs.  I eventually purchased the record but for a 13 year old with no money that sufficed for a while.

Thanks for posting Thom

Super vivid milestone in my life at Palo Alto high school we had a class called psychology through literature. the books that we read completely opened and expanded my mind   Learnings for a lifetime. We also had retreats or encounter groups with the teacher Tom S

One of her exercises was The entire class going together To see this milestone film at the finearts theater on California Avenue right down the street from became to Keystone

And then had several discussions about it

that was the best class by 100% and I was ever exposed to and blessed to of had

I should watch it again have a great Saturday all

Thom, sounds like your dad was cool. Right on.

Love how people kiss Thom's ass when on the rare occasions he's not being an asshole.  Very Zippy like.   Great zoning. Great movie.

Busted, I guess I try ro be nice whenever there is a rare occasion cuz he is such a loser - talking music is fine, anything else and hating anything "blue" blindly without any logic or rational thoughgt / processing- sad
" you people"  taken right from his leaders handbook (half the cigarete is left)
