E + anyone around Chico

Forums:

I hear there's a fire in Paradise, are you safe from the dangers of fire? Here's hoping...

Haven’t heard from E today but he lives a ways north of where it looks like where the fire currently is.

That's good to hear. I think it may be in Oroville or the Feather River Canyon, can you find a report of where it is to post here?

Thanks. I find that map confusing, but I have a better sense of it.

We're going to Redding for Thanksgiving.

Was seeing howlin rain in Chico last night with Buncombe, who hopefully isn't threatened by any of this.

The town of paradise is getting decimated.

gonna b a long night for that area, lotta wind today.

feel free to reach out if you'd like to meet up over the thanksgiving weekend, slacker

Here's the CalFire Map.

Also some large-sounding fires in the Delta Area East of Vacaville (wondering if that's why we have a TON of smoke in the East Bay right now).

Link to check air quality in your area (ours is currently "RED" right now)

Here on Marin coast, I went out this afternoon and the sky was so weird

that it looked like an eclipse. The sun set blood red a bit ago.

Good luck to all those up north.

My good friend is freaking out. His grandparents live north of Paradise and have to go through Paradise and was stuck in traffic last we heard.

Propane tanks exploding around Paradise was warning people of approaching fire. Fucked up!

Reminder, if your air is affected wear a mask rated at least N95, available at paint, building supply and hardware stores. Keep the bad air out of your house (apparently you can use a furnace filter that fits in an open window if you need the air).

Smoke is thick in Santa Rosa right now... Peace & strength to all fighting it tonight.

>>>Peace & strength to all fighting it tonight.

Amen, Canyon. Hope they all stay safe. Vibes to them and all affected.

Sadly brought to mind my friend Matt Burchett, who died a few months ago fighting California wildfires. Left a wife and a six year-old. Sucks.

Horrible update, prayers go out to everyone

<< OROVILLE — The fast-moving Camp Fire burned up to 1,000 buildings and homes in the Paradise area Thursday and reportedly killed multiple people.

Then Thursday night the fire turned east, and evacuations were ordered along the east side of Chico.

Cal Fire-Butte County Chief Darren Read said in the afternoon that hundreds of structures in Paradise have burned, perhaps as many as 1,000. Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea said there are reports of multiple fatalities, and authorities are trying to verify how many.>>

So horrible, Noodler.

Slick, so tragically sad thinking of your friend Matt Burchett.

Video from east Chico showing the fire line literally going horizon to horizon (more evacuations!)

I met a guy at a Phil show at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds from Paradise. Bob was his name i think. I hope he's ok..

Man this is crazy.

Damn.  That sky looks like something out of a 60s Bible flick.

Awful.  Hope everyone gets out ok.   Things can be replaced, but man, what a terrible event in a string of terrible events down there.   Hoping for some rain.

Chico Strong

I checked in with Buncombe, safe and the mandatory evacuation was lifted. Bags packed and ready in case things turn bad

Hoping for the best to all that are impacted by these fires.  Some with Teslas in the area are using Bioweapon Defense Mode, I just learned about that feature.

This is so minor compared to what people closer to the fires are facing, but:

"The Alameda County Council of Superintendents made the joint decision today to close all schools in Alameda County. Making the decision to close schools was not easy. We hope the extra time off will allow everyone to recover from the difficult week we have experienced...."

Oakland is showing "purple" on the air quality scale.  Non es bueno.

Quite a few of my miner friends lost their homes in Paradise....

People brought their ranch animals (and cars) to the beach to escape the fire in the Malibu.

Sand and water don’t burn, I guess.

Zinke rips 'radical environmental groups' over California fires

Washington (CNN)Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke is blaming "radical environmental groups" for a lack of forest management that he says are spreading the deadly California wildfires.

In a Tuesday conference call with reporters, Zinke criticized "lawsuit after lawsuit by, yes, the radical environmental groups that would rather burn down the entire forest than cut a single tree or thin the forest."

Asked which groups, Zinke declined to name names. He acknowledged been an historic drought in California and rising temperatures, but primarily focused on all parties working together to manage forests.

His colleague in federal land management, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, spoke instead of misguided efforts of "well-meaning environmentalists."

"If not doing anything to the forests kept them pristine, I'd be all for that. That's the problem," Perdue said on the call with reporters. "That's been the theory from well-meaning environmentalists over the years, is that a forest that you did nothing to was pristine. We know that's not to be the case."

Together, Zinke -- who oversees the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, and Fish and Wildlife Service -- and Perdue, along with the Forest Service, manage the vast majority of federally-owned land in the U.S.

Zinke's comments echoed an interview he gave with Breitbart News on Sunday.

"I will lay this on the foot of the environmental radicals that have prevented us from managing the forests for years, and you know what, this is on them," Zinke told the conservative news outlet.

At one point, Zinke told the outlet it's "not time for finger-pointing" -- right before he pointed fingers at "radical environmentalists."

"This is where America stands. It's not time for finger-pointing. We know the problem: it's been years of neglect, and in many cases, it's been these radical environmentalists that want nature to take its course," Zinke said in the Sunday interview. "We have dead and dying timber. We can manage it using best science, best practices. But to let this devastation go on year after year after year is unacceptable."

The interior secretary and former Montana congressman has made similar comments over the last week with regard to the wildfires, which have killed scores of people.

Yeah my lungs and sinus are shot from this fire. The fancy mask that my friends who lived in China for three years recommended should arrive today just in time for the rain, but I have a feeling I will need them again.

The deadliest and most destructive blaze in California history.

Thanks to the firefighters for their efforts.

Peace on the departed.

Good luck to the survivors.
