Dweezil Anyone?

I went to the Dweezil Zappa show on 4/30/25 in Columbus, OH and it was a great show. He had a great band with him covering all kinds of instruments, as is needed with orchestral and jazzy music. He played lots of my favorites, Uncle Remus, Montana, Cosmic Debris, St. Alphonso's, Zomby Woof, you get the idea. He mixed it up, playing a 4/4 time with emphasis only on the 3 (super cool!), scales ending in a jazzy pattern and changing time signatures in songs, as Frank's songs tend to do.  Dweezil is playing great and his band is stellar.

I did have problems hearing the lyrics for Zach, the main singer, but the diction for all the others was great. Zach's problem may have been a venue issue though. Sheila (maybe last name Gonzalez) was a great singer, playing different saxophones, flute and the duck call. The only time I have ever liked the song Hello by Lionel Richie was with Sheila playing it with duck calls the whole way through. Very funny.

And to all the girls, I recommend this highly. I have avoided Dweezil in the past because he acted out some tasteless tunes, and it was uncomfortable sitting among a bunch of gross men gawking. Even Moon was embarrassed to be with her Dad in public. However, that was way before the Me Too movement and men have realized if they want women around them they need to reel it in. Dweezil only played a little non-PC stuff, and with Frank there's always going to be a little. It's still all classic and I'm so grateful for Frank's wonderful music and that Dweezil keeps it alive.

I always say, you know you're at a good show if the women's restroom line is short and the men's restroom line extends way outside the door. This show easily passed that test.
