"Where Does The Time Go...?"

Where do I begin about this? DSO is going to Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the best Dead show that I've ever experienced, Lewiston ME 9/06/80, on 9/06/20 in Philadelphia. It will be a Drive In show in a huge parking lot. Social distancing and masks will be required. it's all somewhat surreal, but there's no way I'm missing it. i already got my Tix and AIRBNB lined up. I  post about Lewiston '80 on this board and other social media almost every year around Labor Day, because it is such an exquisite memory for me & my crew. One of the 5 guys in my original crew 40 years ago is going to Philly with me for this. I even made up a Box Set of Charlie Miller's Matrix recordings and gave out 35 free copies to the first 35 takers on The Phil Zone 5 years ago. that's how much this amazing day has meant to me in my life.. I am psyched to go, but have lowered expectations because of the inherent irony of being in a car at a huge parking lot, compared to the big open field that we had 40 years ago. But, hey, I'm glad they are doing this! Looking forward to it!!!

I wonder if any other Zoners are going?

Loved the original and loved the box set, but sadly won't be making it to the DSO show. Have fun.

Gearing up for the DSO Drive-In show in Philly this weekend. As part of my preparations,  I am updating the Box set I made up 5 years ago. Are there any other Zoners who actually went to Lewiston 9/06/80?

hopefully the cops aren't set up right outside the parking lot. seems like a no brainer considering the impairment in cars going on for 3 hours.

For those who missed the live 'Morning Dew' Broadcast, here is the 24/7 Archive podcast player: http://wfdu.streamrewind.com/bookmarks/listen/301645/morning-dew

I agree that Lewiston was the best show of 1980--its one of my fav post Keith shows.  I was not there but saw them at the Spectrum the week before on 8/29 and 8/30 and both of those shows were pretty solid. Brent was comfortably in the saddle and the band was excellent on the summer 1980 swing.  I saw 3 or 4 Radio City show in October and in my view, they didn't match ether the Spectrum or Lewiston shows.  Too bad as I recall reading, they don't have a tape or quality recording of Lewiston in the GD vault as it would make a tasty release.  FYI, Roy Buchannan was on the Lewiston bill as you say--he was one of my favs--saw him many times.  There was a 1971 PBS special called Introducing Roy Buchanan and here is what Jerry said about Roy.  “Probably the most original country style rock and roll guitar player. Has the nicest tone, the most amazing chops technically – superfast. And much neglected.” – Jerry Garcia on Roy Buchanan.

Thanks for that, Greasyheart. Nice Jerry quote on Roy.

I went to the DSO recreation of Lewiston 9/06/80 on it's exact 40th Anniversary Sunday. Had a great time, although the whole Drive In / stay by your car thing was a bit surreal They piped sound to  your car stereo via an FM Signal so there was no PA system. There were nice Big Screens for viewing though. I thought DSO did the show justice.

Unfortunately, security hassled me for trying to  give away my Box Sets containing the Roy Buchanan, Levon Helm & Dead sets from 40 years ago that day. They thought I  was selling them. As a result I now have a couple dozen Box Sets that I can share with Zoners who might be interested. Just send me an email at <[email protected]>  if you  want one.

Not my picture but it was a perfect Indian Summer day. I've always wondered about the promoter that went with a outdoor concert in September in central Maine. It could have been so much worse.

Being a very young very stupid person I stopped going to shows for about a year after this show because I thought I had seen the best show I would ever see.

Hey I'd be happy to hear that box-set.  Don't know if you'll be attending the Santana tribute band on Thursday,  but I'll be there Weather permitting.  Missed the David Bowie cover band last night,  too bad,  Great weather.

Not too many more shows happening there at Woodbridge.

Disco Stu, the Bowie band was  fantastic! Great night. I think I'm done with the Tribute bands though. Just email me your postal mailing address & I'll gladly send you a copy of the Lewiston Box Set...

Weir had to tell the audience to take a step back!  I'm surprised that rabid rushing to get close would happen in Maine. Did he ever say that in California!?
