DSO at the Greek, 7/31 and 8/1, and Jerry Day in SF

DSO is at the Berkeley Greek today and tomorrow. Word has it, today is a "Tribute to Bob Weir" with "Special Guests." JGB opens.
Tomorrow Peter Rowan opens. And, of course, Jerry Day during the day tomorrow in McLaren Park.
I'd be interested to hear reports from attendees, and I'll pass on anything interesting I hear. Have fun anyone who attends.

Saw them last night at the State Fair. One of the stranger shows I've seen. The stage was built over water and just being at the state fair for a dead music concert was kind of bizare.
But they always bring it. FOTM was smoking.

Mark Karan is a guest tonight
Mark Karan is a guest tonight, which is a good call.
Despite never really being taken with DSO I considered going to tonight's show, mostly just to be back in "the scene" at the glorious Greek, but expense and lack of an acceptable available seat at these oddly fully reserved shows made staying away an easy call.
I tend balk at spending $90+ for a cover band, but I'm sure it will be a hippie good time and a nice start to the big week of Grateful Dead celebrations happening all over the Bay Area, and I assume many other locales as well.

Hope last night was good. I also saw the show at the fair, kinda weird only getting a 90-minute set but they played some heavy-hitting tunes and the sound was good. They're good at what they do, they really are.

I got a ticket to see them next month for $32 next to the river in Harrisburg. It's not the Greek, but i suspect it will be much more comfortable people/traffic wise.

I attended both nights of DSO
I attended both nights of DSO at the Greek and came away impressed. The shows were benefits for the Rex Foundation. Friday’s show, featuring sit-ins from Mark Karan, Jay Lane, Dave Ellis, Barry Sless, John Kadlecik, Melvin Seals, and Alex Jordan, was fantastic. Sless brought a lot to “Let It Grow,” and the playing was superb. Melvin’s JGB, joined by the horn section, delivered a strong opening set. The second night, Garcia’s birthday, opened with Peter Rowan accompanied by the Sam Grisman Quintet. Rowan was outstanding and played all the Old & In the Way material I hoped to hear. DSO fully captured the spirit of 8/1/73, delivering a well-played show with loud, crisp sound. Skip Vabgelis on bass really had the Phil bombs dialed in. It was also great to be back at the Greek, looking around and seeing so many people who had been there in the ’80s. It felt like a homecoming reunion.

I also attended both nights and liked both of them.
The first night was more "novel" with good guests and fun songs , nice Bob flavored set. Melvin is always fun to see.
The second night was my favorite of the two. Great to see Peter Rowen again with Sam and his gang. DSO brought it nicely on 8/1/73. The Dark Star-El Paso-Eyes-Morning Dew was terrific I have always loved that sequence of tunes since I first heard the tape in High School. Went with my son both nights which is always fun.
