Are Dogs Smarter Than Cats? Science Has an Answer

One of our most contentious debates may now have an answer.

Dogs, it turns out, have about twice the number of neurons in their cerebral cortexes than what cats have, which suggests they could be about twice as intelligent

Yeah, but 90% of it is just "Squirrel!".

Dogs die too soon.

^my last two lived to 15 and 13.

My current are 2 and 3 years old

There's am organization dedicated to re-homing pet giant tortoises when they outlive their humans.

Fuck dog supremists.

Cat power, motherfuckers!

Then why don't they learn not to chase skunks?

There is also a group to find long-term homes for Parrots;  they live a long time.  Really intelligent creatures.

>Then why don't they learn not to chase skunks?<

My last two would keep about 20 yards away from every skunk we ever encountered.

We have a skunk living in our old shed. The cats are friends with it.

hey thom, hope all is well....happy holidays

didnt we already know?

the women are smarter....

Never seen a cat with porcupine quills in its face....

Did hambone just call Tom 'Thom' and say women are dogs?

^it seems so, Slack.

Why are you so angry about dog superiority?

Things are well enough, Jambone.

Hope all is well on your end.

Happy holidays back at you.

I probably wouldn't like cats if they were everywhere and people had multiple long daily discussions about their cats with other cat enthusiasts at the cat park.

And dog owners leave shit everywhere.

lol, sorry on the name typo, Tom..;)

slack... not a women  to dog reference, delivery boy ...just a failed attempt at reminding us who is in charge

keep up the good lurk, though

No worries, Jambone.

Slacker, why are you hanging at dog parks?

Responsible dog owners clean up after their dog.

What percentage of dog owners are responsible?

I don't hang at the dog park. I hear about the dog park from dog owning friends and family. It's the worst part about visiting.

I picture Slacker bringing his cat to the 'small dog' side of dog park.  He dresses the cat in one of those Yorkie-Poo sweater vests and it mingles with the little Yappy dogs,  while he chats inanities with the old ladies there.  No one notices that it's a cat dressed in a dog sweater.

I hate my local dog park. Mainly because of the people.

My inlaws don't go to they're local dog parks anymore because everyone is too political.

so, you lurk there for them, then run home to tell them what everyone was saying???

huh, huh??

good boy....

 >>What percentage of dog owners are responsible?

Not sure, but certainly not enough. One of the reasons there are so many shelters.

>I don't hang at the dog park...

Neither do I.

I took Hüsky on Friday,  at a time of day when we never attend.  So none of his usual buddies were there,  except another Husky named DJ.  He still had a blast running around with his new pals.  His favorite are the Puppies.  He has fun playing with juvenile hounds.

As far as the people,  it's Jerseyland.  Lots of assholes, naturally.  Some nice people also.  I can't recall having many interesting conversations there.

Haven't been as frequently compared to Summer,  as we are biking  more often,  faster and longer distances.  When it's in the 40's and 50's that's perfect conditions for both of us.  Seven + miles the other day,  probably do four & 1/2 today.  I can tell already that the cool weather and more frequent conditioning have perked him up.

I think cats in general are smarter than dogs,  at least from a survival viewpoint.  If you leave a Cat to fend for itself on 50 acres with some brush and wildlife, it can last years and maintain good health.  A Dog in the same situation winds up with terrible health problems.

On the other hand,  in a domestic situation,  dogs are highly trainable,  cats not so much.  But cats are better mousers.  My hound is pretty smart,  but I've had German Shepherds that were smarter.

>Then why don't they learn not to chase skunks?<

mine does. unless we are near a road with cars i walk him without a leash, if he sees something all i need to do is say "AY!" and he will walk right by my side and not go anywhere.

maybe your dogs just blow

Hüsky must always be leashed or contained within a fence.  I have not been able to get H.I.M.  to 'stay'  or 'heel'  outside the confines of obedience class.

The instructors there actually chuckled when I brought the hound in:  "We'll take your $$ and do the best we can,  but he is a Siberian Husky,  so don't expect miracles."  Apparently the breed is notorious for 'free-thinking'.  Also Houdini-ism.  They can manage to escape many forms of containment.

Dogs are pack animals, they don't do well on their own.

>> >Then why don't they learn not to chase skunks?<

...and porcupines.

My mixed breed pooch is so smart, he'll  be doing my taxes again this year.

Yeah, but is he getting you a big refund?

By deducting mortgage interest on the dog house, we are sitting pretty.

 >>>>>deducting mortgage interest on the dog house

Last year for that. sad

Dogs eat cat poop.

Cats do not eat dog poop.

Doesn't that answer the question?

A cat CHOOSES.

A dog OBEYS.

Now would you kindly fetch me my slippers?

snoopy vs bill the cat....

i rest my case...

Why are cat lovers so anti-science?

A photographic example of these  intellectual beasts...
