Well a first for me - apparently i ran a red light recently ??? wtf Got my $ 520.00 citation in the mail just one click away right to my mail box ! FROM THEM ! WTF !!
That sucks. They have them around here but I am pretty good about not running red lights.
I did get a ticket once for speeding from one of the mobile speedometer machines they set up now and then. I was surprised how good the picture was. No denying it was me driving.
We used to have them in TX, they gave all kinds of tickets for failing to stop for a full 3 seconds making a right turn at an intersection.
People HATED them.
Me included. Paid a fine the first time, then called bullshit on the ridiculous tickets.
Idiotic and did nothing to make traffic safer (unlike maybe speeding tickets...people regularly speed 10-20 over around my neighborhood speed camera (no tickets, just telling you you are 10-20 over..., which is useless, I would be fine with robot speeding tickets)
Now banned, no fines enforceable, despite the 200 letters I got for 3 citations.
Dude, you're getting hosed on a $520 fine. The base fine is only $100. As per trafficschoolonline.com, there has to be a clear picture of both the license plate and driver. Do they have both? It also says the traffic school is to avoid points on your license.
Some would argue that it's safer than being pulled over by the police.<<<
^ I would argue this and even take it a step further in saying traffic enforcement ought not be an excuse for law enforcement to place a foot in the door of people's lives.
There's already likely a black box inside newer vehicles. Why not simply come up with an algorithm that dings people with fines & points ever so often based upon their cumulative driving habits? This can be used in conjunction with real world monitoring to much a lesser extent.
In CO you have to be served personally for the fine/points to be enforceable. Sometimes, if you don't pay it, they will come to your door and "serve" it to you, but rarely happens.
I'd look into the applicable law(s), PLF. Call one of the lawyers you see on the side of a bus or maybe your grocery cart.
Waze will warn you where they are and you can set it so it only gives warnings not turn by turn instructions, but it is a pain to turn on every time you go out the door.
Just looked quick out of curiosity and Online Traffic School says the fine here in CA should only be about $100-200, must have clear photo of driver and license plate.
They suggest you fight a fine like that, to at least get it lowered or thrown out all together. The cameras are run by third parties and could be suspect.
I think SF got rid of most of them after so many complaints of fuck-ups.
And I don't think I'm an excellent driver anymore. You learn with age (sometimes).
Good luck Plf.
I imagine you are a decent driver who just unintentionally fucked up.
Thx for reminding me why I braked for a Yellow the other day. Almost every intersection has a Cam around here. I did pass a cop doing 40 in a 45 though.
Currently banned in FL., but we had them a few years ago and I'm sure they paid for themselves. The fine was around $150., and they definitely deterred dipshits from running them at key/dangerous intersections... the camera's weren't lyin'.
>I would argue this and even take it a step further in saying traffic enforcement ought not be an excuse for law enforcement to place a foot in the door>
Bar owners, restaurant owners, and drunk drivers would likely agree.
The giving of tickets based on cameras is banned. Not the actual cameras located at intersections. In New Jersey it is estimated that cameras are in the high 90 % range at signaled intersections. With camera technology getting smaller and with better resolutions due to better sensors, you have to pretty much figure cameras are everywhere now...not just intersections. A case in point and from a decade already was the 2010 Times Square Bomber case. Authorities were able to almost piece together complete footage of the bomber's vehicle from the time it entered New York City to the time it was parked. They were also able to identify him from that footage. Considering how fast camera technology is progressing, I am sure that it has more capabilities than we can imagine.
>>>>>In the history of driving has there ever been anyone who thinks they're NOT an excellent driver?
Lol, true - but I have driven over a million miles since I got my DL in 1967 without a moving violation.<<<<
At this point, I'm not going to tempt fate and make a similar claim, but I do believe I am an excellent driver as well.
But imagine you had to complete your tax returns in front of an IRS agent who was monitoring your actions in real-time .... ready to pounce if you made a calculation error or used the wrong figure altogether?
I get that it's "different", but how is it not now more the "same" with technology that can accurately archive and audit data pertaining to people's actions on the roads?
They have these near me in a few intersections in colma, SSF, daly city.
i have been busted for it. the thing is it's not for running a light per say. it is for creeping across the pedestrian crossing to make a right on red.
happened to my wife also. same 520 fine. they maintain that you must come to a complete 100% stop before the white line, then creep out to see if it's okay to turn.
the camera is sensitive and is triggered like a nfl touchdown call. it's nuts.
anyway you go to court fight it and the judge knocks it down to 320ish(i think).
the only sure way to have it dismissed is to be in plates that arent yours since the owner of the car must show in court. they then show the judge the person in the photo isnt them and it gets thrown out.
