Did You See The GD on 7-4-81?

Forums:

My friend commented to me about attending this show in Austin about 8 years after

the fact. He looked at me like he was still dosed from that night and simply said,

"Second set Bird Song."

I saw the Dead on the 4th in '86 (Buffalo) and in '89. (also Buffalo).

I skipped '87 in Foxboro by choice (bad move), and missed '90, at Sandstone, (not by choice).

Fun day to see America's band, for sure.

Happy 4th Everyone!

Damn double post. Not even stoned or drunk...yet.

Buffalo '86 as well.

I think that was my only 4th show.

Oxford Plains '88 was 7/2 & 7/3.

This summer tour has to be one of the most underrated. The following night at Zoo Amphitheater is one of my favorites.  CC Rider and Let it Grow are stand outs.

Yes Oxford was a blast. Strong shows and a great mellow scene...even with 100,000 people.

There were so many rumors going around they posted signs saying

"There Is NO show On The 4th"

Cedar Rapids 84 was my only 4th of July show.

Buffalo 89 was my only Fourth of July show.

Killer sets!  US Blues encore with fireworks!

Wow. I'd forgotten about the crash of the Ramble on Rose bus. The band dedicated He's Gone to Paul who died.

cc rider stand out, thats a good one

Thread needs links. Manor Downs '81 - https://archive.org/details/gd81-07-04.sbd.samaritano-miller.21802.sbeok...

I contend Foxboro '87 was their worst show ever. They were so concerned about the Dylan set they apparently forgot how to play their own songs.

Oxford was great...i dont know how many ppl were there...there was a ton...but, they only sold 35,000 for each show...

that manor downs show is the shit.

i was at sandstone 90. that was 4th if july? don't remember that.

No.

I love that Manor Downs show.  Monster China>Rider.

Agreed Tatters. That '87 Foxboro show was a mess IMO. It doesn't help that I hated that place to begin with.

Buffalo '89 was a great time. That was my first show on that excellent summer tour (never did go back to Foxboro). JFK, Giants stadium & RFK were great too. My friends continued on to Deer Creek, but vacation was over & back to work for me.

Wasn't there but this is a favorite listen of mine also.

For what it's worth Manor Downs is pronounced, Mayner Downs by the locals.

Texas.

That Manor Downs show was my first tape. I love that show.

This. Saw D and the GD at Autzen and thought the same thing.

It didn't help that we ate too many shrooms and got "stranded" out in the sun.

Sandstone 7/4/90.... not a great show but very fun. Me and buds had just been out to Shoreline/Eugene and were coming back across.
I do remember I was so high I had to lay down on the lawn and remember enjoying watching people dancing to the Scarlet Fire and watching the kaleidoscope on my eyelids

People shooting off fireworks in the lot after the show and us laughing like mad getting frightened at the BOOM tripping balls
