Denver eats

Forums:

Looking for some suggestions on casual dining in denver. Heading there Wednesday and will be staying between Capitol Hill and Montclair. Will probably do the afternoon Rockies game on Thursday so somewhere for lunch downtown would be cool too.

I'd recommend Biker Jim's by the ballpark for a dog. Steuben's in uptown for good comfort food. Adelita's on Broadway is my current favorite Mexican spot. Obviously you'll want to hit Santiago's for some green chile while you're in town as well.

Have fun!

snooze has the best corned beef hash ive ever eaten in my life - i love corned beef hash and have eaten it all over the country. however, be warned, its a bit of a hipstery brunch spot, but more than worth it for some absolutely mindblowing corned beef hash. denver has an affinity for brunch even beyond SF...its mind boggling to me how many restaraunts exist that serve only breakfast food during brunch hours, with many of them open only on weekends...really strange, especially to someone raised amongst the mammoth operating costs of bay area foodservice.

rosenbergs bagels have solid NYC bagels...nothing mindblowing and def not as good as some of the NYC greats, but better than what most cities outside of the NY area have, and a close enough vibe to be a pretty fun novelty.

i have never really sat down for dinner in denver tho - always breakfast/brunch followed or preceded by shows and drugs, with quick food near the venue for dinner, so my only denver rec's are morning food, lol

there are also tons of "so bad its fucking great" greasy spoon truck stop diners, a sort that does not really exist in CA.

Pete's Kitchen is a Colfax greasy spoon institution. Worth a late night stop.

Snooze is on the list, my son works night shift and eats there often after work, and one of the plans is to pick him up after work and hit Snooze. Thanks everyone, its gonna be a quick family visit  with not a buch of free time or I would offer to meet up for a cold one or two. Well unless someones wants to catch the Rockies game.

Shotgun Willie's used to have a pretty good lunch buffet.

I like Angelo's on 6th and Washington.

Good casual Italian with Oyster bar and drinks.

Mark, I think your a bourbon guy but just got a bottle of this rye, pretty smooth and tastee20170619_205416_0.jpg

I like rye as well, Fabes. Haven't had a chance to try that one yet. I'm generally a fan of Beam's higher shelf stuff, so I'll definitely check it out.

I'm currently enamored with Rebel Yell 10 year, which is a (sourced) single barrel wheated bourbon at 100 proof. Really good, and pretty reasonable @ $55.

Cap Hill breakfast - check out Jelly @13th and Pearl. Trendy, fun, good.

Did  the Denver biscuit company after landing, real good stuff there

family plans may be on hold for Friday, where is the meet up for the Phil Lesh Rock Show on Friday?

was going to do Panic at Red Rocks since I never been there but with Phil close by and already having ticket to two nights of Panic in St. Augustine in September I think Red Rocks can wait. Phil ain't coming to fla. so a zoner gotta do what a zoner gotta do

Phil hates humidity

Don't people just eat rocks and tumbleweeds in Colorado?

i had some good tacos when out there for ween.

some little spot w/ counter seating and some booths. pretty good. all mexican women making and preparing the food.

it's called el taco de mexico.

Hipster's eat well 6

There's a tamale place I like around 34th and Tejon. Tamales by La Casita. Formica tables, fluorescent lights, family run, closed on Sundays. Inexpensive and very tasty. Good green chili. Old school Denver.

Anyone going to Phil on Friday?

Nope. I couldn't justify the expense for the family band.

In Angelo's now, good pizza the sauce is really top notch

i hear ya on the family band, panic tickets are dropping fast on stub hub, maybe red rocks is back in. Looks like Rockies tics are going to be real cheap, a pair on the 1st base lower level are about $20, lets see where they will be tomorrow

Mark, we started out tonight  going to Santiago's. pulled into the one in Lowery Park and the wife vetoed it. It was a bit sketchy, must be some good green chili sauce. We got back to my kids place and he said there is another one around here that he goes to.

Lol. Some of the Santiago's locations are definitely a bit sketch, Fabes.

DBC is fantastic. Glad you guys had a chance to eat there.

Yak and Yeti has great Indian/Nepalese food and a lunch buffet.

Daylight, I did the corned beef hash at Snooze and it was a great recommendation. Also had a bite of my son's OMG French Toast, man was that good, you gotta try that next time you are  there.

Right now I gotta hand it to Daylight and Highnote on their choices, Mark not so much. St. Mark I think I will give you a shot at redemtion, and we will probably go with Adalitas after the Rockies game today, website looks like it could be a nice happy hour destination after the game. Thanks everyone

Post-Rockies: Head north on Brighton Blvd to The Source and get tacos/margs at Comida.

Lol. The only place you went that I recommend was Santiago's, and you were scared to go in?

That's on you, man. The Chile is legendary for a reason.

Hey Mark after your first suggestion I'm checking websites first before your other suggestions

thanks Ned, I think your trustworthy and will not check the website, you gotta watch out for those zoty guys

off to the game, got first row in upper deck about Midway on the left field line to $18 a piece on StubHub. I worked it

Mark's suggested Stueben's is a winner. Cool part of town (uptown).

Comida also has a location at Stanley Marketplace. if there, check out Cheluna's for BEER.

I'm Starving..........

Lola - in Denver Highlands - great mexican fish centric ( but not exclusive ) menu - amazing tequila selection - sit at the bar on the outside side and let the bartenders match your tequila to your menu pics...

Had dinner recently at TrueFoods in Cherry Creek.

Bomb-diggity.

Glad you enjoyed Angelo's.

Mikepa - Lola =new gentrified Highlands. LaCasita = old Highlands. You still see old guys with Broncos bomber jackets. Boulder Street is an example of how natives are being priced out.

There is thread called redemption and validation and it is a fraud. The real redemption and validation does not go to Dead Co but rather to St Mark with his Adalitas suggestion. It not just for the food which was pretty good but the wife wanted to keep the Mexican vibe going. So I asked the waiter to point me to a liquor store which was only a few steps down the same block where I grabbed a bottle of Bruho Mezcal and we are a couple drinks into it and the son has left for work. With that I can say thank you Mr Redeemer.

Think nothing of it, Fabes. Awesome is just what I do.

I'll have to try Adelitas. Right on dispensary row.

Good happy hour at Adalitas, we left the Rockies game early. The Modello drafts were good and their tequila selection is vast

it was Buho Mezcal that I bought not Bruho, was pretty buzzed up last night

Raining this morning And my son just finished his last shift of the week so the next two days he will be showing us around with a trip to the mountains thrown in, and of course more eats. I am probably going to blow off both rock shows, my back has been messed up since I left Florida and either standing for a whole show or sitting in seats with no backs is not in the cards. Wouldn't mind coming back for Sturgil at rr

i did stop at a dispensary and picked up some Colorado ice for the back pain, on a smoking hiatus but it was nice seeing what legal is all about

glad to hear you enjoyed! i wanted that french toast also, but nobosy with me got it, and i can never justify the price or food waste of getting 2 dishes. i wish more breakfast spots would sell a single slice of french toast as a reasonably priced side.

also, there is supposed to be very solid japanese food around sakura square. i have not dabbled, but the lady who owned the ramen place i used to work at, who was born in japan and lived there thru college, reccomends the area highly. if you live somewhere with a serious japanese food scene it might be no big deal, but if not, there is ramen and sushi there thats significantly better than most american cities.

also, check out https://denver.eater.com/

i forgot to post that site last time. eater has different sites for a large handful of major US cities. it is very hipstery and dreched in cringey foodie culture, but at the same time if you know how to serpeate the wheat from the chaff it can be the best tool for finding good food in many cities all across the country.

Had breakfast at Jelly and also hit Wax Trax which was a cool record store, nothing fancy just lots of wax. Jelly's was good and packed , also grabbed some of their donut bites to take home

wife is doing a lot of mother henning in shopping for stuff for kids apartment (it never ends) This thread has made my side of the trip very enjoyable, thanx again everyone. Next trip I will have more time for fly fishing and stuff I like, but I always enjoy a good meal

Went to the REI store, WOW what a place but no fishing gear, wtf. Then we hung at 16th St Mall, and wound up at Sam's #3. Man Sam's piles it on the plate, had some good green chili and the blu bacon burger with a side of onion rings, pretty nice diner.

The REI store is located in a building that formerly housed one of the weirdest places in old-school Denver, The Forney Museum.

Look that shit up.

Forney looked like a car museum, the motor cycle section would of been cool to see

heading to the garden of the gods and possibly a glance at Red Rock today

I was expecting a museum on Fornicating

That would be Shotgun Willie's.

I hear Cabelas is the place fish fear.

Denver trip is winding down. Started today at Voodoo Doughnuts. I understand that lines can wrap around the building, but the doughnuts were average, the apple fritter was very tasty.

Red Rocks had a nice little Scramble Campbell art show going on with a nice tribute section devoted to Colonel Bruce Hampton. After that it was on to Stuebens for nice late lunch. Waiter recommended a dish of corn chips smother in a barbecue pulled meat and topped with a fried egg. Absolutely tremendous!

For or the final meal we are heading back to the Denver Biscuit Company which phase shifts into a pizza joint after 2:00 pm

thanks again, I have enjoyed all of the recommendations and have enjoyed my time in your home of Denver!!!, along with working this thread
