DelFest ---- DelYeah!

Forums:

It's that time of year again in Western Maryland. Our official start of summer. Headed out after the coffee kicks in.

A little light on the "jamband," (often there is something Salmon, Cheese, or Phish-related included) but a lil something for everyone.... a sweet, well run festival in its 11th year:

THE DEL MCCOURY BAND • THE TRAVELIN’ MCCOURYS
THE BLUEGRASS CONGRESS (THE DEL MCCOURY BAND, DAVID GRISMAN, RICKY SKAGGS, SAM BUSH, JERRY DOUGLAS, BRYAN SUTTON, STUART DUNCAN)
OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW • GREENSKY BLUEGRASS • RICKY SKAGGS & KENTUCKY THUNDER
THE DAWG TRIO WITH DAVID GRISMAN, DANNY BARNES, SAM GRISMAN • SAM BUSH
RICHARD THOMPSON • THE JERRY DOUGLAS BAND • THE INFAMOUS STRINGDUSTERS
THE WOOD BROTHERS • RHIANNON GIDDENS • MANDOLIN ORANGE • FRUITION • SIERRA HULL
THE GIBSON BROTHERS • RISING APPALACHIA • BRYAN SUTTON BAND • BILLY STRINGS
THE CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS • THE KRUGER BROTHERS • JOE CRAVEN & THE SOMETIMERS
THE LIL SMOKIES • CRIS JACOBS • DUSTBOWL REVIVAL • THE BROTHERS COMATOSE
HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES • REVEREND PEYTON’S BIG DAMN BAND
NEW ORLEANS SUSPECTS • BIRDS OF CHICAGO • JON STICKLEY TRIO • THE BROOMESTIX
THE GRASS IS DEAD • TWISTED PINE • DRÉ & THE GOSPEL COLLECTIVE

Anyone out there going?

Great lineup. Wish I was there.

Sounds great, but them boys can't count.

haha

great lineup

Loved it last year,  great venue,  nice people.

Can't swing it this year unfortunately.

Have a blast all who attend.

"Sounds great, but them boys can't count."

Sam Bush is a separate act, notice the dot instead of a comma before his name.

Thanks, Thom - I knew that. Just thought it looked humorous. Guess not. Oh, well.

BTW --

So far,  this streamer has good Audio from DelFest:

This one sounds good too.

Does anyone here actually listen to Music anymore ??

That's still my trip -- The Music.

Went to for the first time ever yesterday.   Saw Grisman, Ricky Skaggs, Del, Greensky Bluegrass and The Grass Is Dead.

Had an excellent time.

Beautiful scenery there eh,  Mr. Jimp.

Those above mixlr links aren't running now, but this one is:

Reports of some rain there in the chat and it went off. Who got rained out? What a bummer with that incredible lineup.

Got Taj at Strawberry. Just started.

Can't locate any Sunday streams for DF.  Maybe it's raining and people don't want their mics to get wet?

Chime in if you've got one.

OK,

Finally a good Stream --

"Horseshoes & Hand Grenades"  just started.

Have fun.

Spoke with one Zoner this afternoon who confirmed a few Rain delays,  also some Gorgeous Sunny days.

There's also an incredible Tale of a lost cel-fone and Good Samaritans reuniting owner & fone.

I couldn't understand all the details,  something about Barrel-Aged Moonshine.

Sounds like it all worked out.

Hotter and wetter this year, but that didn't put much of a damper on the festivities.

Still one of the most "user-friendly" big annual multi-day music festivals around. No lines at check in to get your wristbands, no hassle to park on site, no outrageously long walks, plenty of food/beer, clean bathrooms, no visible police presence, no visible knucklehead behavior, etc.

The festival takes place at a county fairgrounds so there is a grandstand next to the main stage to duck into for shade or to escape the weather. The rain was certainly torrential at some points. A couple of acts were delayed, cut short or canceled because of the rain and lightning,

No surprise that Billy Strings late nite was a highlight for me.

The Wood Bros, The Bros Comatose, I had not seen before & the “Blister in the Sun” to close the Comatose late night set was about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

The rain delayed Bluegrass Congress convened during a downpour that we agreed was more comfortable than the blazing sun earlier in the day.

Sun, rain, the ensuing mud, (bring hay), more music than you can shake a leg at, and a peaceful loving vibe are all apart of one of the best festivals in the land.

Joe Craven, the MC, made a point of mentioning the thread that connects Bill Monroe and Jerry Garcia, and the recognition of that connection by Del McCoury. Rarely a set goes by without a Garcia linked tune.  Many sets are up on the archive now.

Nice pics StoneSculpter.

I caught the end of their set, the Broomstix have improved through the years.

Thanks for all the nice Photos.

Really enjoyed the scene last year.  However,  torrential downpours seem to be the norm.

Definitely include muck boots,  extra socks & rain-wear on your check-list.  Many campers selected scenic spots near the several creeks / streams but got flooded out.

Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band (this is actually a 3 piece band with the Reverend playing a real axe strung with 3 strings)

Dustbowl Revival (doing their lampshade song)

In addition to the main stage in the middle of the racetrack, there is one outdoor side stage and one indoor stage:

Dre collective (including Jason Carter, Gibson Bros, Dre Anders, Sierra Hull, Justin Moses, plus) doing Songs from Laurel Canyon set

Forgot which act this was... lots of sit-ins throughout the festival

I highly recommend this "civilized" festival for families and/or late night psychedelic vortexers.....  just bring an umbrella

>>>>just bring an umbrella

raincoat - someone tried raising an umbrella in front of me during the main stage Billy Strings set.

That did not go well, umbrella went back down quick.

(If anyone spots the festival's closing latenight set with McCourys doing a couple Dead tunes at 3 am, please post... the Loser jam went waaaaay out there in space...somewhat transcending bluegrass for a bit. I remember hearing an Other One tease)

Thanks for the report, Alan.

Going to see Del and several of these same artists at Blue Ox fest in Eau Claire, WI in a couple weeks.

Can't frickin wait! Much needed getaway!
