Delayed Review of April 2 RCMH

Forums:

This guy, who calls Dead & Co, Dead & Slow, had viewed Bobby’s erratic behaviors – e.g., falling at the Nokia, talking instead of singing, sloppy rhythm guitar playing (as well as slow playing songs that should rock), was blown away by Saturday’s RCMH show.  Why?

• Bobby channeled Jerry and instead of sloppy rhythm guitar playing, took lead and actually killed it a few times

• Bobby’s voice experienced a catharsis…he stopped talking and belted out with gusto every song

• The full Wolf Pack supported all of the music

• The horn section was fantastic

• Ron Carter on bass on Dark Star was reminiscent of Branford Marsalis at the Nassau Coliseum in 1990

• Bobby deferred on several country songs to Tyler Childers who was wonderful

• Brittney Spencer was colorful (I could not resist) even if Bobby had to ask her last name two times

Walk in the Sunshine, rarely played, was played well

• My favorite Ace song – Black-throated Wind – brought a tear to my eye

Shakedown Street killed it

• The Eyes>What’s Goin’ On>Eyes sandwich was superb

Days Between was a true snorer…reminded me of the many pee-break songs I heard with GD…and went on for waaaay too long

As much as I truly enjoyed Saturday’s show, my takeaway: I am not sure spending the time and money to travel to shows outweighs streaming on a couch with your pals.

That’s all folks!

Great review

Thank you

Great review

Thank you

Thanks for your take.  I put a review of this show in the "Who Are The Special Guests" thread after the first night's stream thread got polluted by some hissiness.  I just put up a review of Sunday night's show in the stream thread for that night.  Thought Sunday was the stronger performance, for reasons spelled out in my review.  Agreed about Tyler Childers additions, the "Eyes>What's Going On>Eyes" sammy, and the Wolfpack's contributions.  Also thought that Brittany Spencer's knockout take on "Looks Like Rain" the first night was a highlight.  In the moment, I thought the "Dark Star" was solid, but not terribly spectacular.  Everyone else keeps gushing about it, though, so I'll have to give it another listen.

Thanks to all of you for your reviews. Next best thing to couch tour, which is next best thing to being there.

Playing now on Gdradio.net, started @ 2:15

^Stand by for that really great Darkstar with Ron Carter!

I was there Sat..the Dark Star seems overrated IMHO. It never really took off- Carter played a few nice chords, but really didn't push the music anywhere spectacular. Not to diss his playing as he is a treasure. Just felt like a bit of a let down. I saw him looking and locking in with Jeff on the keys to try and figure out where to go with things. Still fun though. Have to agree the Wolf Pack are tight and worth the price of admission alone. What a group of talented musicians.

Saw Sunday’s show and was pleasantly surprised.  Sound was amazing and the song selection was great.  Just to clarify pretty certain that Weir fell at the Cap not the Nokia.  He forgot the words to El Paso at the Nokia.

Bob forgot the words to El Paso at more than one venue.

.....and Truckin' at every venue....

for sure, I was just saying that I thought the time that Weir fell was at the Cap
