Deep Purple Tonight

Forums:

Amazed they are still around and thought they were done, done when Jon Lord checked out.  But they still have three guys from the classic lineup - Ian Gillan (vocals), Ian Paice (drums), and Roger Glover (bass).   Their new keyboard player is Don Airey who has played with practically ever British hard rock and heavy metal act that needed a pinch hitter. Guitarist Steve Morse rounds out the ensemble.

Have  a blast.

They were great live in the early 70's.

Niiiiiiiice. Morse is God

Enjoy your ass kickin'

very nice, Gillan was Jesus, v.2.0

^^

Agree on Steve Morse, have fun and report back.

Well, they still rock. Set list is below.  Steve Morse is a monster guitar player and the best part about it was he didn't try to sound like Ritchie Blackmore on any of the songs.  Crushed it.  Keyboard dude, Don Airey, was insane.  Better than any classical pianist I have seen but some of it was a little too Liberace and over the top.  Also, unlike Maiden the other night, these dudes looked their age.

Venue was undersold.  The Keller has a capacity of around 3,000, but it was only 2/3 the way full.  By comparison, Iron Maiden sold out the Rose Garden on Friday.  In fact, we were "upgraded" from nose bleeds to box seating because it was undersold which was alright by me.  It wasn't "Muppet Show" box seats, but a nice open balcony area with plenty of room to dance and rock out.
