Deep Ellum and Dallas, Texas

Forums:

Down here in Dallas for wknd on a business trip, but we came in a few days early to enjoy an area of country i have family in (cousins) but, have never been to.

Went out to dinner w one of my cousins and her husband last night. Ive met her a few times in my life as she attended Smith College in Mass. years ago, and both of them visited us in Ct. about 8 years back or so.

So, we headed out in his 2015 BMW m-4 convertable (twin turbo), to a local BBQ pit. Afterwards , they said they would give us a drive - tour of area, and even show us where we would be wrkng the next day. We were minutes from our hotel, when i look up at some pretty cool night club on a corner, ppl hanging and partying, dancin etc on a second story porch, and i see a large sign (for area , i found out after) that said "Deep Ellum". Obviously, my eyes were keyed to sign, and i then asked my cousin about it, explaining song connection etc...

She explained the "roots" of the Deep Ellum, Dallas, area to me, which was very cool....i learned alot...pretty cool little part of town, and def. Lots of nightlife and music was availavble...

Im wrkng most of the wknd, but free at differant times as well..i just saw Mathew Sweet is playing somewhere around, cpl other "shows" or "events" jumped out at me...but, if anyone is familiar w this area....any recommendations for food, and or music, would be appreciated...

Thanks....ya' ll

Put your money in your shoes...

^ already got fair warning from hotel employees about "areas" to shy away from, and then my cousin really gave me lowdown as she lives 5 miles out of downtown and knows area well

Headspace works in Deep Ellum

Cool....we passed by a club called 9 s last night (i think thats name), and read in paper this a.m. about really cool looking place called "Trees".

Still not sure if I'll even have any free time...but, ill know more later today

Fireworks over a lake in an area called Grapevine every friday pm...may hit that tonite

I saw Govt Mule there in the late 90s ^

I'm old and haven't been to Deep Elum for years.  Place has always been pretty wild, I hear it is safer and busier than ever.  Nonetheless, I'd stay in well lit areas.

Lower greenville area is pretty happening area as well, this place is fun:  http://www.granadatheater.com/calendar/
