Weir and Ramblin' Jack, last night. Bob came out for about half of Jack's hour long set. Really fun time. Only 166 years of experience between them.

^Lol  ......Aveeno is wondering how to break the contract.

So sad to see the glorification of the killing of trophy animals. The hunting of animals
of sucks, especially ones that won't be consumed. Next time you plow into a deer out
on the highway, you can thank the hunters of Mountain Lions. Mountain Lions are practically the only predator
that can naturally keep the deer populations in check. No pictures from me on this thread.......sad

Yeah, cougar killing is weak.  Bad photo.

Yea there is def better things to do with cougars

Saw two bobcats on today's hike!  Unfortunately, they look like specks on my cell photo....they were curious, and sat above me, watching.  I stopped and stood a few minutes, then wondered if momma was around...and slowly backed down the hill and went another way.

Agree about the lame hunting image. Nothing to be proud of!

In other news, here's another reason to travel to Portland,... lines have been around the block.... but OG northwesterners don't need a retail storefront.

The story is a good read, too: https://www.wweek.com/news/2022/12/06/whos-behind-a-west-burnside-storef...

thought they mapped routes ahead of time to avoid high voltage lines above

years ago I was part of a crew installing modular housing for UCSC students.

We had these long extension poles with a wye at the tip so we could raise the power lines as the modular untis made their way up Bay Steet to campus.

New signs put up in Newport and Boston, at both ends of Americas longest continuous road

newport-oregon-route-20-sign-2016-12-8.jpg

Cool Newport sign, but it's been there for a several years.

Since 1956 I've always lived within a few miles of US 20 - grew up by the eastern end and now near the other end. From 1979 to 1984 our address was ON Hwy. 20.

My brother drove the entire length of the highway a few years ago from E. to W., although it took him two years. We drove with him on the final leg from Corvallis to Newport, since we live only a few hundred yards from 20. He took a selfie with that sign just after he dipped his tootsies in the Pacific.

Cool story Surfdead, and yes, i've been driving by that sign several times a year...  but for our non local phriends, there was just a todo about it;

And this would be the local news about HW 20;

Noodler, interesting collage.

Santa has three hands?

Who says Santa can't be/isn't black? WTF - as far as tall fables go, it sounds like "jesus" wasn't white either.

Depoe Bay Sunset yesterday

320727534_5806871592733261_3376700488743258106_n_0.jpg

Imagine smiling proudly and posing in a picture with a bloody mountain lion corpse and thinking that's cool. Y'all should be ashamed.

I had  a dream I got banned from the Zone for posting that picture.

Decided to just let it go but I am not one to upset people on porpoise.

Since it was brought back up and it's been bugging me, let me explain.

I don't hunt. I never have and never will. No one in my family hunted growing up so I've never been around guns.

In fact I even stopped catch and release fishing. I felt bad at what the hooks would do to the fish...

As a teenager in upstate NY deer hunting was a rite of  passage for my friends.

So I started getting exposed to it. And started paying attention.

In California I met wild boar hunters that keep their pack of dogs hungry and mean.

In Alaska I met folks who eat bear and moose they kill.

In northern Idaho I was invited to go "tree" a cougar with his dogs(I declined) but he had a lynx in his freezer waiting for the taxidermist.

Horrified I educated myself:

To "tree" mountain lion means training a pack of dogs to find and chase the lion up a tree so you can walk up and shoot it trapped in the tree.

Totally legal!

But I call bullshit. That ain't fair at all. You should have to hunt the animal on its terms without the help of dogs.

Oh, But they are SOOOO proud of their dogs.

Where I live now a big part of the local economy is people flying in from all over the world to kill shit. Hell my first friend here grew up a taxidermist's daughter(believe it or not Little Feat used "taxidermist's daughter" twice in a the song Representing the Mambo)

So a kid I worked with for a month years ago became facebook friends. We haven't interacted with each other since then but every now and then FB will share his pics. I stole it from him.

Again it was a legal hunt in an area where there are to many mountain lions. In fact since I moved here the Wildlife Department has killed 3 in the neighborhood that got too used to humans.

Hunting guide books available for free at Cabelas:

c a1.jpg

These people are as fanatical about killing shit as we are about chasing music. They will fly to Africa, Alaska etc. spending big money to pursue their dream. A friend of a friend just spent $75,000 to shoot exotic animals in Tanzania.

I apologize if I offended anyone. I selfishly thought I should expose the Zone to how a different set of humans chase their joy.

Oh goody, JR drops in to cast aspersions.

What's shakin', JR? Happy? Healthy? I hope so.
