Shit, I'm still sick and I need to be better for the rest of the week so I'm likely missing this one.

Bummer mostly because I'd be going with a group of old friends I don't see much anymore. We all were at the closing of Winterland 41 years ago and were making this a bit of a reunion.

I may rally and show up late just for the 2nd set (which in my experience is when this band gets going anyway).

Shit, I'm still sick and I need to be better for the rest of the week so I'm likely missing this one.<<<

Feeling the bummer as well, been sick for nearly 5 weeks with norovirus ... "bad part" (#2) has mostly come and gone, but still have a constant headache with weird generalized inflammation that just doesn't want to leave.  I had made it worse by going snowboarding a couple weeks ago when I thought I was "done", but it only prolonged the misery.   Likely won't be going out for NYE unless there's a dramatic 24 hr turn around ... it's just not worth it, but hope you can make it if it's in the cards!

Hope you're felling better Tom (I'll suck on zinc tablet for a few minutes when I feel a bug coming on, denatures the proteins in the virus I figure, 10 years of hospital work and never called in sick).

My first show was the night before Winterlands closing (Pauly Pavillion UCLA, dec 30, 78).  Hope you get a second wind and are able to make it!

The Music Never Stops

It should be mentioned that Chase Center is only a few blocks away from the old theater on Potrero Hill where the Grateful Dead rehearsed in the late '60s and worked up many of their greatest songs, including The Eleven. Kinda' cool they're playing it tonight.

That old place on Connecticut St. still stands.

I've seen a couple of shows at Chase and came away from both feeling the place is very wide and has a super high ceiling, leading to very boomy sound. My friends are reporting the same from the show tonight.

For better or worse it's going to become the go-to venue for most SF shows. It will be interesting to see how long it is before people begin lamenting the loss of the Bill Graham Civic.
