Dead & Co. Blossom 6/28

Forums:

Dead & Co. Sold Out Blossom Music Center!  Weather should be fine! Pleasant and warmer with sunshine mixing with some clouds.

High of 79 degrees / Realfeel 83 degrees / 0% chance of precipitation. Wish I could be there, however I cannot this year. However my wife & I are hosting 2 pals who are going. Question is: Do you know the back way into Blossom? frown

Is Blossom Music Center the same as the old Buckeye Lake?

Hope me you have a great time! What a cool summer venue.

Blossom is not Buckeye. Blossom up north near Akron / Cleveland. Buckeye down in central Ohio east of Columbus.

The sneaky, easiest & best way to get in to Blossom is from the North coming down Northhampton Rd. traveling South then turn right onto Kent State Dr. This way you avoid all of the traffic snarly backup on W Steels Corner Rd.. All of the roads you see north off of W. Steels Corner are actually driveways inside of Blossom. I think Kent State Dr. is actually a driveway into Blossom.

I would try to avoid approaching the venue from the east. The Rt. 8 South or Akron Cleveland Rd to W Steels Corner Rd. then going west towards venue route - it's always packed there. Plus coming in from the East there you get traffic coming to Blossom from Turnpike (INT 80 from north) and from RT 76 (from south) converging at W. Steel Corners Rd. with everyone wanting to go west towards the venue. You will be much better off getting closer to the venue from the roads north and west of the venue. You can get to the Wheatley Rd. exit from RT 77 North & South and then come into the closer area around the venue from the northwest. Whew! Safe Travels & Peace!

Time to dust off Daytripper?

Herbal, that 85 dead show was so Jerry strong

Be careful getting in everyone, word is heavy police & State Highway Patrol presence on area highways around Blossom.

I think Black Throated, Black Peter, Attics of My Life tonight.

Whole thing?

Or one of those first-three-tunes deals?  Which make me wonder how many folks watch until the cut-off and then pony up.

FYI, there are two streams from Nugs tonight,  with a first set link and a separate 2nd set link

I saw many great shows at blossom, a couple of the great ones were the  GD a couple times, a few great Jimmy Buffet shows, Neil Young in a massive thunder storm with balls of lightning everywhere, and even danced on the stage around Vassar at one of the bluegrass festivals there. Good Times

Looks like they started, but I'm getting spinny-buffer-thingy.

Back to John Hiatt

reload, reload, reload, kiss a toad, well this doesn't bode, no nnjimmy mode....  wait, wait, at least I enjoyed the ride

fabes, those were my first two GD shows in 84 and 85.

Also saw the Neil and the Blue notes 88 show there. (20 minute Tonight's The Night with Joe Walsh guesting). Crazy rain and they allowed lawn folks into the pavilion.

Great venue! Many memories of awesome events!

I would be there tonight with my wife and many tour buddies were it not for a nagging foot injury.sad

Deadley, the Neil show that I was at was before 88, I had left Ohio by then, but it was also so bad that they let the lawn people under the pavillion also. I thought that they should of actually canceled the show that night because the lightning was so bad. Also saw the neil tour there with the shocking Pinks, first half of show might of been trans.

weird

got the show on my phone & it's showing completely different shots than what's on the pc. no sound from the pc, driver for the sound card hasn't been updated. same link to youtube but the phone is showing shots of all the band members. pc showing mostly bob & john.

fark got his black throated wind

Maybe a lovelight later...they still havent played it since it got scratched from Fenway

One for the couch tour crew.

Set 1:

Hell in a Bucket

Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo

Black-Throated Wind

Row Jimmy

Big River

Cassidy

Big Railroad Blues

Perhaps the best first set I have seen/heard.

I know, I know, but vibes are coming my way from all my loving friends there tonight!

GTTS when able.

China Cat 'swhere it's at!yes

I tuned in midway thru Big River (I love a Shitshow after all) & have noticed this show does seem to be a cut above "the usual fare".  But still DeadCo . . .

Bobby throwing the China Cat lick behind Mayer's Rider solo.

Nice.

Props where due.

Always an asterisk on any show post Jerry, but some fun things can happen occasionally. heart

Yup this show seems to have some legs. The band have taken there vitamins and said there prayers.

seems like they have a small group of songs they rotate.

have they ever played

cryptical

the eleven

born cross eyed

lazy lightning

supplication

wharf rat

mountains

cosmic charlie

duprees

ship of fools

weather report suite

ubc

new potato

That He's Gone -> Truckin about as good of a transition as this band is able to pull off.  @ least it didn't come to a grinding halt like it does most of the time . . .

Hi  Pyramid. Having viewed a bunch of recent tour set lists earlier today I said something very much along those lines. Its like they are sticking to a pattern of limiting the catalog exactly like the Dead did to a fault.  Would have been nice had they  chosen a few more tunes from that vast catalog.

what up KK.

That was actually an uncharacteristically respectable jam - until Bobby BK-ed it @ the end . . .

They've definitely done Wharf Rat & Let It Grow, maybe not this year . . .

Yeah, Bob weirded up that transition at the end of Truckin', I bet he had to take a leak real bad.

Dogman was right "The Bicycle Horns Sounded Like Ducks"

That was a classic Weir cut off... Drumzzzz... is this the same sample loop s he used in 95?

Mickey's workin those clown horns pretty hard...

Was I listening to the wrong feed or are there playing drums for the second time tonight.

Anyone have an updated set list? Accidentally sat on roku at some point and might have sidetracked a bit... Mickey is calling ducks right now

Ducks :-)

stella ?

Forgot to tune in until now.  Sounds crisp on h2oGirlNora channel.  I was out changing brake fluids and mowing some Poison Ivy.

I'll always remember the Cuyahoga Falls Summer '84 show as the one I had food poisoning.  It was the pre-show KFC salad bar, probably "Macaroni Salad" which did me in.  Even water made me barf for about 18 - 20 hours.  Too bad I was so miserable that day, as it was a pretty good Show.

Dark Star?

"Hi I'm Bobby Buzzkill"

Miracle might be a bust out or @ least a rarity for this band - not that that's saying much . . .

There's your Rat

Ugh - Shatnered Rat - See that's why this band ultimately in the end Sucks - show was going great, even a nice little jam post space, then a shitty unimaginative post drums setlist, just like GD shows in the '80's - I'm goin' back to listening to Miles Davis albums . . . .

>>>>>>> Anyone have an updated set list?

2nd set = China -> Rider -> He's Gone -> Truckin -> mini jam -> drums/space -> mini jam - I Need A Miracle -> Shatnered Rat -> Miles Davis Albums . . .

the jam outta space was kinda cool. complete cluster fuck from there on out. jeez.

Word. sad to say i agree with Bob, Family band better. IMHO

The handful I've listened to give me a fairly consistent impression:  They make pretty nice First Sets, but can't seem to sustain that energy for a palatable Second Set.  No doubt there are exceptions,  but that's just from what I've heard.

Probably has something to do with the lack of inter-song jams.

>> "The Bicycle Horns Sounded Like Ducks"

Quack smiley

Definately a shoe highlight!

999595_0.jpg

Caught it from space on. Really liked it.

Think they've played 102 different tunes up to this point!

Pretty respectable if true. Haven't heard most shows so idk?

It seems just 30 years ago I heard Black Muddy River as an encore at every third show.

?

Last (GD) shoe  in Chicago, Jerry encored with Black Muddy River.

Phil didn't want the tour 2 end that way, so he launched into Box.

"Recreating the Grateful Dead experience since 2015!"

^^^^^

The 2nd set could be any show from '87, when Black Muddy moved to the encore slot, to August 1995....

>> Last (GD) shoe  in Chicago, Jerry encored with Black Muddy River.  Phil didn't want the tour 2 end that way, so he launched into Box.

Then, when Phil (GD50) played the next time in Chicago, they opened with Box!  Knock GD50 or whatever but that fact and what they did by opening with Box was truly awesome and set the stage for an amazing & memorable 3 days & nights with dear phriends!

lol !!!

Yes, Few shows ago...

It was the Bristow VA. Show.

ohhh, ok...I missed it :)...Hilarious !!!

Figures, the shortcut took the longest for some reason! Plain Dealer article below with Jeff Chimenti's named misspelled throughout.

Dead & Company help fans forget traffic woes with nostalgic gig (concert review) -http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2017/06/dead_company_he...

From the Streams I've listened to,  I think this band sounds better than last Summer.  The Citifield show sounded pretty good over the Webcast.

While I could not justify paying $$ for Camden or Citifield tickets,  Everyone who went seemed to have a Fun Time.

I think it is great that they get to practice playing Shows at their senile Old Age,  and also gross 25 million Buck$$ while they're at it.

 From the review linked above:

"Though the band is Dead & Company and doesn't have Phil Lesh or Jerry Garcia, this was the Grateful Dead"

Lol.

"And while there was a hint of the aroma you'd expect to whiff at a Dead show, it was nowhere near as pervasive as I expected. Not that I was disappointed, of course. Honest. I mean, those days are over for me, too. And, I suspect, for a majority of the more than 20,000 at Blossom"

Triple lol.
