For everything there is a beginning, and for the Grateful Dead, the band that is most associated with the Summer of Love and future decades of decadence, the beginning was 1967 and their debut record, San Francisco's Grateful Dead.  With the release of this record came the first quintessential songs that would be preformed for years to come--Cold Rain and Snow....Morning Dew...Beat It On Down The Line--along with a host of blues covers that would also be a trademark of the band.  And while the album found love on the AM radio of San Francisco, most of the band always felt that the recording had been rushed and the songs really became alive when they were played in front of an audience.

Tonight, the de Young will recreate this record live...feeling the grave of good ole M H rumble, as the Howlin Rain, led by Bay Area legend Ethan Miller, lead a sordid cast of local musicians through this record, in sequential order, to celebrate 50 years of the recorded Dead, and 50 years since the Summer of Love.

What do you turn on, when you turn on???????
