Wonder if this "Dead Ahead" will tour the US next summer?

Here are the details.

https://www.deadaheadfestival.com/

Starts at around $2,287 per person not including airfare.   Frankly, I could go around the world and back for much less than that.

Looks good to me I'll check out the stream. Mayer would be silly not to do this if they do a tour or summer shows. It will be interesting to see how the Goose guy does he's great in goose but Trey is great in Phish too (I like JM better with Dead Stuff.) Derek is simply insane but again let's see in a dead context (he never blew my mind with Phil the way he does with Tedeschi Trucks band or the Allmans

Well... Either way, now we know.

“Dead Ahead” is the new band name, post-Mayer, post-Kreutzmann.

Dead Ahead is actually a perfect and easy name. Impossible to believe it wasn’t used before, even better than “Dead & Company.” Not sure if there was any other cover band using Dead Ahead, but if there was, they won’t be using that name anymore.

Hard to say what they do later in the year, but, now we know. Mayer is gone, Billy is gone, but the train keeps rolling... with “Dead Ahead.”

GooseMan gets another nod. John K some other time?

Interesting question: Oteil AND Don Was on bass? Like a Wasserman/Sylvester thing?

Was is probably just a great guy to have on board any project that's my guess

Looks like a fun party, but other than that I don't see a reason to go for the music. There are just so many train wreck red flags with that line up. I'm sure there will be some great performances with all those heavy hitters, just don't see them gelling for any kind of lift off.

Interesting question: Oteil AND Don Was on bass? Like a Wasserman/Sylvester thing?

I'm thinking you will see two different bands. One with O'tiel and Derek/Susan, the other with Don Was and Rick M or vice versa. Unlikely they would deploy two bassists at once so dividing it up into two line-ups seems more reasonable to me. The whole thing kinda seems like throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks in the hopes of arriving at a band for summer tour.

I'm sure it will be fun, but no spot taken.

the way i read this is "Dead Ahead" is a festival with:

Weir/wolf bros

mickey band

Oteil & Friends with trucks/tedeschi

Orebolo (goose guys)

lettuce (wha?)

etc

no spot taken...

Who is O’tiel, an Irishman I’ve never heard of?

But that does make sense: Oteil in one lineup (with Derek and Susan with whom Oteil has long history), and Don with GooseMan.

I haven't crossed a bridge for Bob-cringe in a while, much less a border.

WTF is a curated collaboration?

Don Was will also be in Wolf Bros, which headlines one night.

And go Barry! Getting that Wolfpack trip to Mexico...

WTF is a curated collaboration?

Matt Busch picks the band members

Why pay anything! All beaches are free in Mexico. No private beaches according to Google. Stay in a cheap place and listen to it from the beach.

The ocean/gulf/sea is more dangerous in the evening. Be careful, James.

obviously id love to see derek and susan play with GD members, but this whole mexico resort show thing is pretty unfortunate. sucks up what could be good lineups or fun runs of shows at normal venues open to all at a reasonable price.

would be cooler if it was just a show in cancun and i could just make my own accommodations and do my own thing. ill never get why this kind of thing is appealing to a scene that has traditionally been opposed to really heavy handed materialism.

"Unlikely they would deploy two bassists at once"

There was a rumor at the Oakland Odd in August 1979 that Phil was leaving the Grateful Dead to be replaced by two bass players: Jack Casady and John Kahn.

"Maybe it's not Phil's thing anymore. We don't want anyone unhappy in the band."

"It's just going to get BETTER."

Turned out to be a bullshit lie.

(BTW, I am zoning from Paris, having a wonderful time, and spending a whole lot less than this Mexico thing.)

I guess I'm just piling on here but has anyone ever KILLED it musically in Mexico?

Whether it's Dead and Co, Phish, Wilco I never at least read much less hear of any KILLER runs there.

Seems it's more about the climate and weather than musical performance but I know nothing, never having been.

Enlighten me if so.

Peace, Happy Tuesday!

It’s all fun and games in Mexico/Jamaica/Jam Cruise until someone in your group gets laid before you do.

Did anyone else catch Sturgill on the tour at the beginning of Covid, promoting his rock and roll movie sound track?

The dude can jam on electric, will be fun to see what he can do with Derek Trucks

Looks like a group has been using that name for a while

Dead Ahead is a Long Island based musical journey into the world of classic Rock, Motown, Blues & Jazz...

During 2014, Dead Ahead opened for Blues Icon BB King at the Great South Bay Music Festival & for The Rascals at the Farmingdale NY Music Fest! Dead Ahead performs a great mix of music by such artists as The Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, The Band, Van Morrison, Warren Haynes & Phish along with Motown Hits, Classic Pop & Jazz standards..

Good times indeed, it's a vacation! Music in Mexico is fun.cenotes, reef diving, music at night. Free drink and food, room service. Good times....

@Comus

$5,000 per person for a week of that!?laugh

You obviously never traveled the real world!

I could maybe spend 6 months on that money or maybe a year in certain places.

Ok maybe the free booze and all you can eat food aren't included but it's not that expensive in a lot of places.

It's 1900 if you go with friends on a room. I've traveled the world plenty. I enjoy Mexico and music, you don't have to agree

 Different strokes.....
