DC Dinner

Forums:

Going to DC next weekend for my Mother in laws 80th.      2017 Itafest.

We have Friday night open and would like to eat a "must have" dinner with my family. We are BIG eaters.

We are staying in DC. Any surgestions???

What part of town you staying in? What kinda food?  Plenty of places to eat, but there's no  real "dc style"

The weekend of 7/1 or 7/8?

Lots of good grub. What type of good you thinking?

Pineapple and Pearls.....a top five meal of my life

And if the Yayoi Kusama exhibit is still at the Hirshorn.....its not to be missed.

<<<No real "dc style"

Go swimming in a few hundred gallons of mambo (mumba) sauce.

We are going to be there 7-9th. We are staying at The Omni Shoreham. Close to the zoo.

Would stay away from seafood and sushi. We are from Florida and have our fill of that.

My wife did find a place called CoCo Sala where they have 5 course deserts. We are bringing my son Ted and as a lot of you know is a huge eater. He asks me daily when are we going to go to a Brazilian meat restaurant again.

Funny story....we went to a Brazilian steak house 3 or 4 years ago and my brother took a seat next to Ted to see who can eat the most meat. My brother told me a week later that he was feeling shitty for 2 days afterwards that he ate too much and that Ted had 2 more plates than him. I told Ted this and he responded "Oh I did not even know we were having a contest"

This Brazilian steakhouse?  Got one in DC

Fogodechao  is a great restaurant in DC. 1101 Pennsylvania ave. If you're by the Zoo then Bethesda, MD is close, just over city line and they have 88 restaurants to choose from, Capital Grille in Chevy Chase is great, Near your hotel is Lebanese Taverna which I like a lot, Robert's Restaurant in your hotel is pretty good as well.

Mr.  FaFa probably knows what he is talking about,  Food-Wise,  and  while not an obese person,  he seems to appreciate a Quality meal with good ingredients.

At Lock'n one year, he BBQ'd a Live Copperhead Snake over Brazilian Rosewood coals.  The thing had to weigh liek, 38 lbs. and was about thirteen feet long or so.

The Marinade was really that special touch which made that Copperhead above & beyond your typical Reptile cuisine.

It was a Cactus Honey / Peyote / Chipotle Brine with a touch of Thai spice.

Double Yum - Yums cheeky

Best Copperhead I tasted the entire Lock'n.

hope you have a great trip!

There's always the olive garden

unlimited breadsticks!

18 years ago on a tight budget even with endless salad and bread sticks we didn't even like OG then. Red Lobster is even worse.

mine are just a Random search i have never been to DC

For your gang this sounds like a winner.

for lunch try this iconic DC establishment

Too bad they took out Phillips at the wharf. The fish market at the wharf is great and i'd steer you that way but they are in the process of a huge gentrification project in that area.

Maryland Blue Claw Crabs, buy the bushel. The season seems to have started early down there this year.

If you have a good appetite, try Ambar.   It's a Serbian restaurant.   They tend to serve food similar to tapas, in the sense of small plates.   They have an unlimited serving option, so you can sample a lot of different dishes.

>>>no  real "dc style"<<<

closest area with a firm regional style of food is prob baltimore with lake trout and pit beef, fwiw

yes, i am very white and know about this because i saw it on the wire and read about baltimore food for awhile on google

For lunch we ate some sammies at Bob and Pops. A local recommended and it was on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

I got the Jewish Hoagie and everyone got something different. We sampled all and all was spot on.

For dinner the doorman told us the Lebanese Taverna was a good choice and he was right. I tried all of the hommus, chicken and lamb. My wife loves a falafel. I do not but these were real good. Had to order a second plate for everyone.

My Mother-in-law was so happy to see all her kids and all of her grandkids in one house and at one time. It was a dandy of a weekend. Everyone told her it was my idea and my doing and she was very very happy with me. I am proud of myself for this one. Still can't smoke a joint around her but I may be getting closer. (No one in the family indulges in the evil weed)

Glad you enjoyed Lebanese Taverna. Great spot for sure. Hope you enjoyed D.C. and make it back soon.

D.C. is one of my favorite cities to visit. I will be back for less family and more tourist stuff. The Omni Shoreham was a great hotel too.

Sounds delicious, Tim.
