Grisman turned 77 yesterday. Saw this lineup around that time & played the crap out of their album.
The clip from The Tonight Show which is presented here for his birthday today. Back in 1979 Grisman appeared on an episode of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in support of his 1978 album Hot Dawg. The performance featured Grisman along with the legendary French violinist Stephane Grappelli with whom he forged a long-lasting working relationship. Also performing on The Tonight Show with Grisman and Grappelli was the talented David Grisman Quintet lineup of Mark O’Connor on guitar, Mike Marshall on mandolin and Rob Wasserman on bass.
