That was 10 minutes well spent.  Simon effectively describes why police unions are a detriment to all working people too.  Thanks for the link.

The war on drugs is a war on people. The war is not intended to be won. It is intended to be continuous. Cannabis is a human right. Drug addiction is an issue of health, not a criminal one. Cannabis is the healing of the nations. Got that out. Breathe. Okay, I’ll watch now.

that's why the a.g. lets dea surveil protestors.

it's a political weapon.

Necessary but not sufficient.

Police Unions are a major problem and obstacle to any meaningful reforms. The chants to "Defund Police" are misguided at best and completely miss the real targets as those union reps are right there to "renegotiate" nothing while continuing to protect and shelter any/all bad cops. This is important and not really being widely discussed or seriously considered (unless I am missing it).

Also prison guard unions

Correct. Defunding the police can effectively be accomplished by three separate means, not just the financial funding one. Reform, including disbanding unions, demilitarizing, overhauling training, etc. is one. Reducing actual operating funding is another. Lawsuits are the third. No one method can really stand to serve any real effect on its own. It's a whole system, and requires a systematic approach to be resolved.

For sure.....all the while heavily contributing to state's  pension obligations while bashing teachers and other similar recipients. I think getting to a situation where it would be difficult to get hired to be a cop and easy to get fired would help sort out some of the riff-raff too.

That's part of reform. Civilian oversight boards made up of citizens with full hire/fire and investigative authority, among others.
This is as opposed to the current non-system of the police hiring and policing themselves.

The war on drugs was to take the voting rights of blacks away by making them felons, and secure future republican victories
