David Byrne Tour

Forums:

Saw David Byrne and his band last night.  Interesting mix of music and performance art.  As you may have seen, the stage setup is spartan with no amps, monitors, wires, mic stands, or other accoutrements of rock and roll shows.   Instead of a drum kit, he used a drum line of six percussionists.   In addition to the drum line, he had bass, guitar, keyboards, and two backup singers and they made a big sound with no pre-recorded tracks.   The lights were simple but creative and the whole thing was in constant, very choreographed movement.

He played about two hours with two separate encores.  The music was about half Talking Heads and half newer stuff.   Definitely not a greatest hits review or a nostalgia act.

Going to see him in Eugene tonight, really looking forward to it!

I really like the new album, very modern lyrics from Dave

"Some of you Just about, missed it"

The rumors are true,  Dude stopped by a local karaoke place, the storied Alibi tiki lounge, on Saturday night and sang a Prince song:

Geez, and they can't even open a tiki bar in Corvallis......

not peeking at the photos, but scored Chicago tix thanks to Big b.

dude is cool.

David Byne is a god damn national treasure.

Not gonna spoil the show.

But everyone needs to see this tour.

"Say his name

Say his name

Say his name"

I hope to catch him at CMAC on 8/5, depending on travel plans.

Last nights show was simply brilliant...  I chose mezzanine (2nd row) over floor so we could enjoy the choreography, which was amazing!

A literal 2 hour assault on the senses, in the best possible terms!

The warm up act, Benjamin Clementine was great too...  great singer / player / songwriter, with some very cool concepts, and simple yet effective visuals.

Go to a show on this tour if you get the chance!

Druba, my thoughts are the same, I picked first row balcony for the same reason you stated. I had 4 th row on the last tour and totally loved the show, looking for another special show

Being a former stage lighting guy, I was agog on opening night of this tour with how the individual lights moved on tracks to follow or lead a performer around the stage. I was thinking for that to work as well as it did, the performers choreography had to be exact every time it happened. I did a little research and it seems that the performer are each wearing infrared transmitters and the lighting fixtures will "see" the performer and adjust on the fly without any other human interaction. Pretty cool stuff.

Saw this tour in Kingston NY and would HIGHly recommend it.

Went to buy tix for my son & wife in Portland - but they are home in New Paltz for 4 nights.

Would bet that marching band experience was required for those drummers.   Can only imagine how good this show is now that they've worked out the kinks.

Ah!   My girlfriend and I were just talking about that yesterday and wondering how they might have been able to pull that off.  Thanks!

how long is the show?  intermission or not?

Two hours not including the opening act.   No intermission.

thanks, Ken.

I love David Byrne and I love Oregon!

I think I need to move there.

that was a very special Memorial Day weekend for me.

pretty overwhelmed right now.

great seeing Moses again; wish I could have met some of u who attended.

God bless u all.

Here is many sounds for your brain to comprehend
Here the sound, it's organized into things that make some sense
Here there is something we call hallucination
Is it the truth or merely a description?

Saw him last week in Vancouver. Scored two 8th row tickets for $37 (usd) each the day of, even though it was 'sold out'.

A very unique (by rock standards) show. David was on his game and so was the amazing band.

too bad vermont can't handle this tour.....would've loved to dose up in the green mountains at this special event.
