Dave's Picks Volume 32

Well at least there’s some good news today!

Bertha, Beat It On Down The Line, Don't Ease Me In, The Race is On, Cumberland Blues, Box Of Rain, Row Jimmy, Jack Straw, They Love Each Other, Mexicali Blues, Tennessee Jed, Looks Like Rain, Wave That Flag, El Paso, Here Comes Sunshine, Me And Bobby McGee, Loser, Playin' In The Band

Promised Land, China Cat Sunflower-> I Know You Rider, Big River, Stella Blue, Me & My Uncle, He's Gone-> Truckin'-> Spanish Jam-> Jam-> Dark Star-> Sing Me Back Home-> Sugar Magnolia

E: Johnny B. Goode

The first set clocks in at over two hours.  I remember thinking that the show was over until my friends told me that it was only intermission.

The Dark Star is considered the shortest version ever played at under three minutes, but IMO they just decided to do the jam before the verse.  As they ease out of the Truckin' jam you can hear Phil play the first three notes of the DS theme before they drift off.  A reverse Dark Star.

Thom, you hooked me up with this shoe many years ago... I believe you had mentioned the tape was from Dick's collection back then.

1973>1979.  there is no reason for cassette masters to get released any longer if they sound like Daves 31.  and if 32 sounds anything like the Dave's 16 release, we are in for a real treat

Yep, Dick handed that tape to me personally, almost 25 years to the day after the show, at the Philadelphia Airport which is about  three miles from the Spectrum.  What are the chances?  A long strange trip indeed.

But it's never sounded as good as I thought it should have and I'm really excited about getting an ultra-processed cleaned up version of this show.

Sing Me Back Home is fantastic on this one too.  the whole thing from He's Gone thru Sugar Mags is sick

This will be great. Love those 500-song first sets.

Has this been announced as the next release yet? I don't see anything on it on Dead.net?

Thanks China Rider!!

Bump for thoughts on this one, it came last week.

Also public service reminder - its time to order your 2020 subscription!

Best sounding '73 show yet released, Phil is all over this one.

Jerry sounds tired on the Sing Me Back Home.

It has it's moments but I wouldn't put it on the scorcher list by any means.

Phil is bouncing for sure.

"but I wouldn't put it on the scorcher list by any means. "

Not a scorcher, but definitely a spacer.  The Playin' and the post Truckin' jam are phenomenal.  And they came to play, one of the longest first sets ever and almost 4 hours of music altogether (which might explain why Jerry sounds tired on SMBH).

And I love the tonality of this release.  Early '73 before Jerry abandoned Alligator and the sound system still had some dirt in it.
