Dark Star Jubilee 2022

Forums:

I know most on Viva are concentrated on select locations on the coasts, but throwing this out there if you are looking for an adventure this memorial day weekend. If you do come, I will spend time with you, and we can share an adult beverage and talk about music at the moment of your choosing.

General Admission is still a bargain at $180.00 which includes parking, camping, 3 days & nights of music, and, you can bring your own food & beverages into concert area:

I love to travel to new fests and was thinking about this one... especially good since it is on a 3-day weekend... but the flights from Portland are ranging between $680--900 RT!

If only I had the time to drive it... that would be fun.

No Vorty side project on the bill?

LLOLLO, if prices come down on flights & you change your mind, let me know!

Joy, doesn't look like it, unless he plays with Magnolia Boulevard, a lexington group he has sat in with before. I don't have any inside scoop though

If this thread is any indication of people's enthusiasm for this upcoming music festival, we are are going to have perfect room for dancing

Personally I think it looks like a grate time

are you going to the gathering of the juggalos too?

woop woop

Right before I did the Other Ones tour in 1998, I lived in dayton, ohio and after a breakup, I moved into this house of some folks who gave me some space and they were juggalos. Nice people, but I got so sick of ICP and faygo and honestly,

I have no desire to go to the Gathering of the Juggalos at Legend Valley

Looking forward to this, it will be my first Jubilee.  Nice group of bands!

Got back a few days ago from Portland. Had a blast-lovely town! Had the pleasure of meeting my second WC zoner, LLOLLO, and she was delightful!

China-Rider, I'm thrilled you are coming out to our part of the country for the Jubilee! If you need anything or have questions, you let me know. No times listed, but we got a gist of who's playing what days today:

paging midwest Zoners, what a deal!

I just sent a text to the one Ohio zoner I know.

I can go, but only for Saturday and Sunday, is that okay? I have to change weekend plans, I skipped this because of the price, my husband Leper Van Atom passed away and now shows are more limited.

Hi Lil, the ticket is yours, I'm very happy it is going to a Zoner!

Send me an email and I'll send you a pdf ticket that you can print.
Pack your camping gear, happy memorial day weekend!

Thank you China, I just sent you an email. Also, thank you Mike for giving me the heads up. Leper Van is smiling down on us!

ZONERS yes

YAY! Love how this story ended. :)

You're welcome, Lil. Glad to be able to help you guys makes this connection. Maybe you'll post some pix?

A huge thank you to China-Rider! I'm only able to go Saturday, but not bad for last minute. I told China how grateful I am for the Zone since my husband, Leper Van Atom, passed away. Reading the Zone is like talking to him, he was an insightful, interesting, Head of all kinds, with a gentle nature, like many Zoners.

Mike, I'm having picture problems. My computer is an old Mac, it won't download even one picture, so I can't upload pics until I get a new Mac. I tried it on my cell phone but the screen would not pop up. I will try again and make sure my computer is logged off of the Zone, but I may need to email you, so you can add them. I also have pictures from Dan Tyminski and Trey Hensley and Rob Ickes from Jorma's Fur Peace Ranch that I couldn't load, but like I said I'll give it a try with the small cell phone again.

Lagerandgospel I added a public email to my profile, send me an email and I'll try to meet you at the Jubilee!

Lil, glad you are able to go, and thanks to China>Rider, always a sweet one.

Lil, nice to meet you! I sent an email!

^Interesting info re: Scott Lookinland. Apparently Mike Lookinland's ("Bobby Brady") son, whom I was not aware of his existence at all, let alone his acting/musical affiliation(s). I used to chat with him (Mike) at SLC-area shows. Rock On.

Me likey this set list!

Did they announce the show?

Cool setlist, I'm there in my minds eye :-)

Nice infusion of Jerry tunes, thanks Melvin!

I looked up Scott Lookinland, is he the son of Mike Lookinland aka Bobby Brady?  Far out!

A couple of members of DSO needed to recover from Covid one more night, so they had some guests, including Scott, doing an elective set. Now, I had no idea who is dad was. I know of Scott vaguely as a DSO fan who does some of the DSO tours as a fan, which is why it's fun he got to play with them.

The full band is supposed to play tonight.  The set list doesn't do justice to the music- Mattson was very inspired up there, the band making up for different format and playing exceptionally well. Great first night!

Good morning Jubilee campers!

Good Morning. Had the pleasure of meeting Lil yesterday. She was really kind & super nice.

On last nights show, Lisa Mackey sang on Jack Straw and Birdsong. Trapeze artist on stage during Birdsong. DSO was flying through uncharted birdsong jam territory while she improvised death-defying trapeze moves to their jams. The second encore was a Pigpen Lovelight.

I think anyone who has seen DSO needs to see them at this venue: they really respond well, like any band, to a top notch speaker system and rabid fan energy. The show felt much larger than the set list implies. Fascinating jams in and out of Bertha and drums. The drummers also have a new Beam and it's sounding great during drums/space.

^^^ LagerandGospel.....glad to hear you're enjoying the performances...consider Days Between Fest.. 2 nights of DSO, JGB, Kimock & Friends and many more.  I'm going to go but waiting until last minute to buy a pass, given my work schedule.

https://daysbetweenfest.com/

Thank you again China-Rider for the ticket, appropriate that DSO would play China Rider at the only show I could see. DSO has a really tight band right now, I really enjoyed it, the bassist had some great fills to go with all the wonderful players. I only got there in time for Keller Williams, but that was fun, with the blue grassing of the Dead songs, Stranger had an interesting arrangement. JGB was also great. A bald eagle started flying over us during Dear Prudence, John K. added in his lyrics, "look at the sky". I had on my GD 25th anniversary shirt with the bald eagle and then DSO filled it out with Jack Straw, the eagles filled the sky. It was special. Being from Columbus, lots of my friends were at the show, who all knew Vern, Leper, he was our eagle.

I forgot to add, I really enjoyed meeting Lagerandgospel at the show, there wasn't much time to talk, but it's always special meeting a Zoner.

Lil, if you took pics, you can email them to me and I'll post them. Sounds like you had a great time.

I'm so glad you got to go, Lil. It seems you were surrounded by Vern and his and your friends. Beautiful.

Thanks for the set lists and reviews.   I found this walkabout video, https://youtu.be/LP8cfeS0QYY, looks like a great time had by all (just hold the phone landscape next time).

Great weekend. Not just saying this, but DSO was playing exceptionally well. All the other bands were good, I really enjoyed the Peter Rowan set with Railroad Earth. Peter is a treasure that I don't feel people I appreciate enough. He's aged a lot since I saw him in 2019, so please if you get a chance to see him, go do so!

I loved each night of music, second night was my favorite. Only sad that JK didn't sit in with DSO, but that's ok.

It was good to dance for three days and feel free. Wish you were there!
