Current last tours of bands I will miss live

Forums:

I'll admit that I've been blessed with seeing a broad spectrum of acts over the years. I am and will always be a live music junkie. Currently two acts that have thrilled me live over the years are finishing up their live performance careers and it looks like I will not get to see either of them on the way out. That's just the way it goes sometimes.

While enjoying their released albums, I didn't get to experience Midnight Oil live until they had been around for awhile. I was not expecting the passion they bring on stage. Perhaps the most unlikely front man in rock and roll, Peter Garrett, looks like Uncle Fester's tall and skinny brother and moves around on stage like a spastic version of Mick Jagger on amphetamines. He is a man possessed with the music and lyrics and makes no apologies for that passion. Talk about a man who walks the walk, .Not satisfied with what was going on in Australian politics, he ran for office and served while the band was on a hiatus. The other members simply kicked ass live. Powerful stuff and I will miss them.

The second group I will surely miss is one that I first heard in a club in New Jersey when a pre-album EP was played on the PA. "Why don't you dance with me? I'm not no Limberger!"  Whoa. What was this primal vocal that I was hearing? I went up to the DJ booth and found out I was just introduced to The B-52s. To say that they were not like anybody else is almost an understatement. This group grabbed me like few other have and has provided a soundtrack to many of my life's highlights. My daughter was conceived while they were playing on the stereo. Their monster album, Cosmic Thing, was the first new music that I purchased, without hearing one note beforehand, when I was newly sober and feeling a bit down that the party was now over for me. That album convinced me that the party was just starting a new and just as exciting chapter of my life. A chapter that has brought me to where I am today. Still rocking out, grinning and making the best of whatever life throws my way.

I am going to miss them both on stage but am thankful for the memories I have.

I was lucky to attend the Oils last show at Hordern Pavillion on October 3. Lots of great video from their epic last tour on YouTube. This video shows Why we love Peter Garrett.

Bss made me chuckle on the inside

i will say that "last tours" often become the last one before the next one

lulz

While it is true that "Last Tours" often are not, I feel the above 2 examples are exactly what they say they are. Midnight Oil always seems to do exactly what it says it is going to and in this case they say no more touring but they will continue to record new music. As for the B-52s I think age has been the deciding factor for hanging up the touring shoes. They have pretty much been an on stage party since the beginning and they no longer fit that bill of running around the stage and dancing antics.

That singer from the Spin Doctors needs to retire his sweat pants!

(Glad I got to see Midnight Oil 30 years ago)
