Cross country $20 show alert

Forums:

Kevin Morby as well as solo project Hand Habits (Meg Duffy, guitarist for Morby's band) going all over. Morby (ex-Woods, ex-Babies) is one of the best songwriters working today. Hand Habits' album is one of the best of the year. I can't speak to the groups playing the February PNW dates (Jay Som or Japanese Breakfast), but the Morby / Hand Habits shows are a no-brainer.

I heard about this.

hmmm...

Found this recent full live in studio hand habits radio session.

I really need to check out the full album.

what's the best proj morby's been a part of that features pedal steel?

they are playing a bday show for me. they haz goods?

It's fairly hipster fantastic

Front woman seems to know her way around the guitar. Great music to fall asleep to.

Y'know, E, I don't know if Kevin Morby has been in a band with pedal steel. Woods has had some unusual arrangements over the years; their last two albums have incorporated the ethio-jazz sound pretty heavily. He jettisoned from them long before that, though.

The album before his last (2016, Singing Saw) doesn't have any steel that I can think of. The title track might be as close as it gets. It features the eponymous instrument, too (an actual singing saw):

"Dorothy" is probably my favorite from that one, though:

>> they haz goods?

I think they do. Jonas is pretty demonstrative of the type of person who wouldn't be into this music, so proceed with caution -- if you're expecting a band full of white dudes with bad hair doing the most recent ode to the endless jamband / classic rock tropes, this probably isn't the thing. If you like basic tenets of songcraft -- you know, actual songs, good arrangements, etc -- you won't be disappointed.

Check out the first link in this post, I think it's a good barometer of his band. Singing Saw is more freak folk, this year's City Music is a bit more indie rock fare. Both excellent titles, both produced a bunch of great songs with bizarro videos.

Forgot the date.  Sorry!

I'd like to thank you for nothing at all, Bluestnote.

Stuff Dickey Back was a lesser-known Timberlake jam?

Again, thank you for puking in my thread, Bluestnote.

Next time: the cup, please.

Great list. Some solid year-end best-ofs on there. Anna St. Louis' album might be the best of the year, period.

TRIGGER WARNING JAM BAND FANS:
TALENTED FEMALE ARTISTS INCLUDED ON THAT YEAR-ENDER.

I thought the Anna Louis was one of the better picks, myself.

also enjoying the horray for riff raff, Julie Byrne, sandy (Alex g) and big thief, but I'm just scratching the surface on most of these.

that list is gonna keep me busy for a while.

Excuse me while I kiss the sky -  A Jimi Hendix Tribute

eventbrite daht kahm

15 bucks!

There's no John Medeski on the bill that I just looked up for the "Hendix [sic] Tribute" at Brooklyn Music School.

Also this thread had to do with a different hipster music bullshit thing. Cheers.

Thanks, man.  You're really helpful.

Maybe the e-mail I received mentioning Medeski was composed after the event notice.

Or vice-versa.  And Medeski had to drop out.

But thanks again.

i'm not going to the reno hipster music bullshit thing.

alert appreciated though

The show at The Lodge Room looks dope, I'd hit that

Looks like that's the only show with Allah-las, they worth checkin out?
