What if NASA's altering of the trajectory of this asteroid caused it's new path to make it smash into some other planet with sentient beings? That would be awkward. This feels a little like violating Starfleet's prime directive of not altering the time-space continuum.

I'm not a Trekkie, but I google most everything anymore.
The Prime Directive (also known as "Starfleet General Order 1", "General Order 1", and the "non-interference directive") is a guiding principle of Starfleet that prohibits its members from interfering with the natural development of alien civilizations. It protects unprepared civilizations from the danger of starship crews introducing advanced technology, knowledge, and values before they are ready.
^^^ thanks Mike, love this... and i also am going to use this with my work project team, so THANKS! Any time I can work in GD lyrics or Star Trek strategy into my workday is a win!
