These shows should have been postponed. I get that there were contracts and it is cross border international laws that these contracts will be under. I cannot understand how their lawyers could not have a negotiated a clause in the event of something beyond their control, a key man getting ill, an act of g-d clause. There's currently a pandemic with a highly contagious variant circulating. The only thing I can conclude is they did not want to postpone these dates and that leads to a completely different discussion.
Tom H. does not suck but I bet he really hates the DeadCo molasses feel. There's a small chance that after rehearsals (do they even have time to rehearse?) they decide to kick it up a notch (please!), if that happens these shows could be the very best DeadCo shows so far.

Even if they've negotiated with the band about the guarantees, they'll still be paying D$C something (the band certainly didn't cancel the events, clearly they were ready to carry on) and then all the other multiple huge expenses will have to be paid; advertising, travel, production, staffing, the resort rental for two full weeks, etc. along with complete ticket refunds. I would imagine there could be some type of insurance coverage involved, but still, CID is going to have to cover a VERY substantial amount.
And the fans who chose to go despite the refund option and are there now aren't going to get flight/travel expenses reimbursed.
I have friends who were really excited about these shows and are there right now. I can only guess how bummed they must be.
Whatever one may think of the band or these shows, the people that go have a great good time and the bands, promoters, venues & local economy all make money, a win/win for everyone involved.

Portland friends are at Moon Palace right now -- they requested the PITS refund by the deadline, then they rebooked through the hotel for 30% of the original price -- they report that the place is about 25% full of deadheads relaxing and doing what deadheads do. Originally they thought that they might hear some musicians, but nothing yet. (They were already in MX as they had arranged to vacation with family in Tulum prior to PITS.)
