Conservative comedy

Forums:

there isn't much of it or at least that i am aware of. all late night shows and high powered comedians seem to be firmly in the 'Leftist' camp.

do liberals have a monopoly on being funny? and then if so, why aren't republicans funny? i like a good racist joke every now and then but that seems to be all they got.

High Court has been funny. Ymmv

Not sure I'd put all the great comedians in the liberal camp. I think a lot hover in the center.

True that conservatives suck at comedy however. They are also terrible at sex, dancing, music and fashion.

i'm a big Bill Maher fan but even i'll admit he's a sexist and islamaphobe.

so basically conservative aren't good at anything besides having babies and going to church.  thomas kincaid is the Van Gogh of the right.

So you are too young to have ever seen "Johnny Carson" but he was considered a mainstream Rightist comedian back in the day.

He had a TV program called "The Tonight Show".

It really was not all that funny, but stayed on the air for decades.

the current administration is a joke

so there's that

I don't know if Kellyanne Conway is a conservative, but she's done some stand-up, although I wouldn't call it comedy.

I think it's because conservatives have trouble mocking themselves and taking jokes at their own expense. There are certainly lots of very uptight liberals, but it seems like the ability for self-reflection and criticism just doesn't exist as much in the right wing.

is larry the cable guy and jeff foxworthy it?

or that asshole jesse walters on fox?

Dennis Miller. But since he became a right wing-nut he stopped being funny.

Not exactly true. Funny is funny, regardless of political leanings. The comedy biz is similar to the world of Scientology in the entertainment world. As soon as you poke fun at the "movement," work dries up. Offers don't come. Bookings don't come. That is why conservative leaning comics who want to keep working keep their leanings private. If they don't they become ex-comedians.

Pretty hard to be funny when your heart is full of contempt, anger and bile...

Was johnny ramone a conservative comedian?

Pretty hard to be funny when your heart is full of contempt, anger and bile...

One would think that would be the case, Turtle. It isn't. Many of the top comedians of all time were/are miserable bastards with actions off the stage filled with contempt, anger and bile. Often the ones they hate the most are themselves.

>> Pretty hard to be funny when your heart is full of contempt, anger and bile..

Lewis Black, Sam Kinnison, and Bill Burr are all pretty angry. Carlin too.

Johnny Carson was hilarious!

I bet Bill Cosby is a conservative.

And I never thought Dennis Miller was very funny.

Jon Lovitz

Victoria Jackson

Sandler

Norm McDonald

The right wingers @ my job used to think Rush Limbaugh was absolutely HILARIOUS.  Um, really?

Leno.

OC, he's not all that funny.

Dennis Miller was funny when people who don't read couldn't understand his jokes.

Then he started tailoring them to people who can't read.

The great thing about people who are naturally funny...

When you don't understand the joke, they're still funny.

(((RIP Colbert Report))))

>>>full of contempt, anger and bile...

Nathan Lane said the all good comedy comes from a place of anger.

I remember thinking parts of Miller's "Mr. Miller Goes To Washington" concert was pretty funny as a kid. He probably lost it sometime before his short lived Monday Night Football co-hosting gig when he seemed to try really hard to show how smart and funny he wasn't.

>>> Nathan Lane said the all good comedy comes from a place of anger.

and you think nathan lane is funny?

>(((RIP Colbert Report))))

Colbert has been on fire lately - I record the Tonight show and watch without commercials and when I'm awake. The first 15 minutes is all political humor now -  some of the best Colbert ever.

We have a couple of good conservative comedians who are zoners.

No good folk music either.

You'd think the tunes would just write themselves.

Leno.

But then again...he's not all that funny.

Sorry, just repeated surfdead's post word for word...great minds thinking alike or something.

>>>>>>> No good folk music either.

Reminded me of the movie Bob Roberts, the Folksinging Right Wing Candidate.

Promoters don't care if you're left, right or your act sucks.  If you fill the seats you'll work.
