President Donald Trump on Saturday spent much of his daily press briefing on the coronavirus raging against perceived enemies, from the media, to the Ukraine whistleblower, to the recently ousted commander of a Navy aircraft carrier.
On the same day the U.S. death toll from the COVID-19 pandemic surpassed 8,000, Trump opened the briefing with a slam at the media, which he accused of “spreading false rumors.”
“Get this over with, then go back to your fake news,” Trump said.
While acknowledging that the nation will likely see “a lot of death” in the coming weeks, the president repeatedly reiterated his calls for the country to “get back to work” and ease up on protective restrictions.
As much as I dislike Trump I a) am not so sure that he's crazy. I still think there's a high chance that as a skilled reality TV show he still knows how to play his audience just the way he wants to.
And b) any physician who freely diagnoses someone else's mental health without so much as a personal interview is being highly irresponsible, misleading and generally clueless. Sounds a lot more politically motivated to me than anything else.
Not sure you need a personal conversation to see the traits of extreme narcissism. A review of past statements can do that. And when combined with the powerful position he holds, that's dangerous.
It has proven to be for over 8,500 hundred people and their family and friends.
And according to the experts, possibly fatal for up to a quarter of a million people in one of the most advanced and rich countries in the world. This catastrophic failure is inexplicable. Good luck to all.
