City Lights needs dough

Forums:

City Lights in SF is asking for donations to help them stay afloat through the pandemic.
Links to gofundme and other ways to donate, buy books or gift certson their home page.

Or, just mail them a check to:
City Lights Books
261 Columbus Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94133

And the people have responded.

They have raised $173,000 out of a goal of $300K.

Definitely an S.F. institution worth saving.

I will make a donation; thanks for posting Mylar.

Love City Lights, will definitely order some books from their website... always visit there when I'm in the City.

In Portland, the iconic Powell's Books was able to bring back staff after promoting online sales as a counter to Amazon.

Another place in the extended Bay area that is running a funding campaign: Deetjen's Big Sur Inn, which is on the National Historic Register.

Like so many other family-run businesses, they are struggling during this crisis.

It's one of my very favorite places to retreat to on the West coast...because I hope to return some day, I made a donation a minute ago.

How do you spell  Laurence Ferlinghetti??

Right  down the street from carol doda

and from where I saw joe pass with my parents many years ago

Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Joe Pass!  He recorded several albums w/ Ella Fitzgerald.

My mom was born and raised in SF and our family used to go shopping in North Beach on weekends when I was a toddler. Favorite restaurants on Broadway / Columbus were the Basque Hotels and a tiny French-Basque place called Des Alpes. The owners used to try and get me to eat things that kids never want to eat, like sweetbreads.

THANK YOU!
From the Beat Museum:
"Thank You for all of the Love & Support"
"City Lights put up a "thank you" note to the neighborhood and the world on the glass of their upstairs windows right after they attained their goal of $300,000. It took only one day! This should give hope to all Beat Generation fans around the world. Everyone I've spoken to in North Beach is grateful and relieved."

Nice chunk of good news.

We bought a few books from them earlier this year.

Such good news, thanks!

Not familiar but this is excellence in fundraising.  Congratulations.

Good news, and amazing how fast they earned that dough; a great example of what a NAME will do for you.

Don't get me wrong, they earned their NAME, and they deserve the support, but so do so many other little places like it, that don't have the same NAME.

We all need to keep our eye out to help out where we can.

Tell me about it. brother.

Kneeds dough? in North Beach?

Love City Lights ,Good to hear

now I miss a slice at Golden Boy and a set at the Saloon...

Dough needs, dough needs...
