Saw the Circle Jerks back in the late 80s in a hockey rink in Denver. Biggest mosh pit I have ever seen, but the band had to stop the show to berate some Nazi punks standing in the middle of the mosh pit punching everyone who went by.
83-88 Miami was one of a dozen great big city hardcore punk scenes.
I loved the Dead but I also loved hardcore. I would go see the Dead for 3 or 4 weeks and a few days later be at a huge slam with Exploited, Suicidal or the Jerks.
Nazi skin heads hated me with my long hair and a Jerry shirt. Being 6-4 285 and benching 400 they didn't fuck with me too much but when they did I had my Martin County crew of a dozen or so to back me up.
Was just listening to Alice Bag's (of East L.A. Punk legends The Bags) debut solo cd from late last year yesterday. A nice mix of Punk Rock and Girl Group inspired garage pop. It's good to see that some of the original punks still have a vision and can create.
Listening to it made me wish that X's John and Exene would stop sucking up to the money tit of touring with has-been acts like Blondie and Garbage, and put together a package tour of the pioneering L.A. Punk bands.
X, The Circle Jerks, The Bags, The Dils and The Weirdos would be a riot!
Grew up in the DC area and saw a ton of hardcore shows from 1984 through 1987. Including Circle Jerks with Keith Morris having a full leg cast from a skateboard accident. Also saw Government Issue a few times. And saw HR do a stage dive off second floor balcony at a Bad Brains show at WUST Music Radio Hall. I think I saw the second or third GWAR show ever, and a saw a ton of other local bands like Mission Imossible, Lunch Meat, Embrace, Rites of Spring etc etc etc
