First post-separation XMas for me. My ex invited me to join her and the kids at her place for XMas eve (more her deal) and the first night of Hannukah (more my deal). All things considered, I'll take it. Honestly, XMas Jam with my old tour buddy looms larger on my horizon this year than the actual holidays.
Trees up, lights hung, got the wreaths for the doors......maybe I just need some deer to come to the back door, they show up every year....Festivus for the rest of us
There's lots of great things about Christmas, whether you look at it as a religious holiday or just a time to come together and reflect.
The commercialism of it that the Grinch's love to bag on just exposes what our culture is all about all the time, and besides it's good for small businesses and the economy overall.
If nothing else Christmas is a great excuse for a good party!
Judit, I think Mark's aggressive negativity deserves a warning.
I generally don't celebrate fake holidays like Xmas
I'm with Surfdead... celebrating the winter solstice is what I generally do if left to my own devices
but this year, I'm traveling east for a short stay in far-northern NY State to spend the holiday with family... both of my parents are still alive -- 86 and 90 years old and married for 67+ years! -- so I feel the need to attend major gatherings of family while my folks still retain much of their mental faculties
last Xmas there was no snow in the Syracuse area... hope it's not too frigid this trip, because I really don't have "winter clothes" anymore

We're actually going to have a small solstice gathering in a couple of weeks. We're gonna make pizza and ice cream and get hella stoned.
