Chris Robinson loves Phil, hates John Mayer

What is it with that dude? He plays up the whole hippie routine but everytime he opens his mouth he is trashing on somebody. Something aint right when someone is that comfortable speaking about their dislike of immediate family. Why wouldnt he just say no comment. He says the grateful dead is now just a tit everyone goes to for money like hes isnt one of them. Like or dislike john mayer, dont know why he goes out of his way to trash on the guy to the point that it seems personal. Get the feeling hes miserable.

Chris has always been an asshat. Great singer and frontman.  He's no songwriter but does a killer cockney accent. 

Can't believe CR is calling out GD family like that in public.

Like I said he's an asshat.  He's all wrapped up in his 20 year jr wife and her piss and vinegar.  Really though --- who the hell actually likes John Mayer?  He said in public what a lot of others have said privately --- 'John Mayer???'.  

First time I saw Chris was opening for ZZ Top in '90.  He pulled the band off the stage after the 3rd song.  ZZ kicked them off tour a few stops later.  Chris is a millionaire, I'm not. 

His voice has never been the same after that tour the Black Crowes did with Jimmy Page doing Led Zep stuff. He's probably mad at Robert Plant for that. Pffft

Jonas I like John Mayer in Dead & Co a lot. And I was a huge skeptic when they announced that line up.I like that he doesn't try to be a clone like others before him.

Don't care for his solo music.  

Can't wait for Vegas on May 27 along w the other shows I'll be seeing. IMO Dead & Co are playing really good music and more justice to the catalog than any band out there w a member of The Core 4 in it , Mayer has embraced both the music and culture and I hope they tour for years. Have you seen Dead & Co?

He's right, that's all Dead$Co is about.  Bobby and the Beat Boys crank up a summer tour each year to cash in.  Good for them, but let's not pretend this is about anything else.

And all Chris does is play with Phil when he's asked to.  I hardly see that as cashing in on the Dead's legacy. 

His vocal sound is a bit too repetitive for my tastes, not a great range, but I've enjoyed the shows I saw with him in the band.  And most of these folks are asshats, he just doesn't hide it.

I've enjoyed a few CRB shows but yes, many of Chris's songs have a little something poached from a GD song.

I agree with the Eggman. John Mayer has picked up the torch from Jerry and is running with it. Easily the best Grateful Dead since Bruce left the band.

Yes CR is an Asshat Tool, but boy is he right about Mayer & DeadCo, & what an absolute Shitshow of a Naked Cash Grab Dull Repetitive BORING Un Psychedelic Un Improvisational Crap Fest for 40-Somethings that Didn't See Enough Shoes in the Bloated Persian Jerry In Red Era it is.  And Mayer is Hardly the Worst thing about DeadCo.  In fact, I'd rank him below Bobby, Mickey, & Billy.

And yes I Endured 1 DeadCo show live (Hartford last summer).  That Black Peter was about the WORSTE thing I've EVER seen ANY band play live EVER!!!!!!!

89-91 weren't too bad.

I find it humorous how folks  seem to get so bent out of shape w this line up or that line up or "the cash grab" ect... Go to the show if you want to or don't it's each and every ones personal choice.

1987 and 1988 were also good IMO. Hampton both years come to mind off the top of my head for both years as well as MSG especially 9/18/87 and that KILLER Morning Dew 

And since this is a Chris Robinson Thread I thought he was awesome at Phil's birthday show with Furthur & Friends 3/12/10 . That was an EXCELLENT show and I am not a fan of his music. 

Face it - if you are on this site, attend a show in the post Garcia era, play GD music for $, hang at TXR or Sweetwater or any of the countless bars and clubs with a Deadhead clientele - YOU ARE OFFICIALLY CORPSE HUMPING.
