I've never actually cut the heads off any Chickens,  so I don't know what that's like.

Anyone here done that ?

Maybe back when I was 13 or 14 my Uncle who raised Pigeons,  for competition Show Pigeon breeding contests,  had me kill a batch for Dinner.  Kind of gross,  and I said "Where is the axe and chopping block ?"

So he tells me,  "You grab the Pigeon with this hand,  then twist off the head like So."

And I decapitated all these poor Pigeons so Grandma could cook them up for Dinner,  and they were actually delicious,  if you like Poultry.  Grandma was a really Good Cook,  and those Birds had an excellent diet.  Much tastier compared to supermarket stuff.

Mostly what is the strongest visual memory,  this one Headless Pigeon,  still trotting around the barnyard and flapping the Wings,  but spurting blood from the neck artery where its head used to be.

When I hear the old clichê "running around like a chicken without a head"  that's what I think of.

Stu,

Go night night. Things will look different in the morning.

My neighbors had a big family and they raised rabbits to supplement their food supply. Same as Stew, twist their heads off and peel the skin off.

Bob Evans - down on the farm

one of our favorite gams was climbing the tree the bull was tied too, and pulling his tail from above

My grandmother and her sisters used to do it a few times a year.  No head screw off involved,  just a quick neck snap, then to the block off with the head, then chit chat with sisters while holding the chicken over one'a those large shallow stainless steel buckets, the kind that held the ice and soda on the 4th of July parties, to drain all the blood. Then they'd make some kind of God only knows concoctions out of it. Dammm good ol farm life.
