The Ireland-based gambling website Paddy Power thinks it's highly unlikely Trump lasts his first term in office without being impeached. The odds are currently 4-7 that the president is impeached before Inauguration Day 2021. To put that in perspective, oddsmakers at Paddy Power think it's nearly twice as likely Trump will be impeached as it is that he will serve four years in office.
Impeachment is gonna be hard with a GOP Senate even if Dems win the House this year. It really depends on what Mueller's team comes up with -- if there's enough strong evidence of criminal conduct by Trump himself (I don't think obstruction alone will be enough), Trump's approval ratings will drop down to 25 or so, and at some point McConnell will decide Trump is more of a liability than an asset. Only then will the dam will break, but I'm not sure we'll ever get there.
Agree with almost everything you said T.O.D., but don't underestimate McConnell's ability for cold calculation. If at some point he decides Trump is standing in the way of him getting more right-wing judges on the bench and Koch-friendly policy through Congress, he's gone and replaced with President Pence. It has nothing to do with integrity or decency, just about finding the easiest way to force the agenda through, and if Trump's approval ratings tank below a certain point, that means it's harder for other Republicans to get elected, which hurts McConnell. I wouldn't be surprised if after they kick Trump out they start calling themselves heroes.
People like T.O.D. and Thom are the problem with today's political climate. Bloodthirsty partisanship has derailed any semblance of a functioning government, and people are paying a real price for it.
I detest Nazis, Commies, right wing nutjobs, and leftist ideolouges.
Your time is almost up. The middle will prevail. We always do.
this same thread seems to pop up every couple of months with the only constant being this time we got him! there's still no evidence except concrete proof the dnc/hillary paid for russian propaganda. this disconnect with reality is mind blowing. love that cartoon!
To impeach him you will have to win back the house, and the vast majority of House seats that are considered contestable are in very safe Republican districts. The Dems might win 10 of them, but they also stand a good chance of losing 2-4 seats of their own.
Goo luck with that, whatever gets you through the night.
If you are interested in reading a good overview of those house races, go here:
Thom, generic ballot polling has generally been looking ugly for the GOP, and Democrats have been vastly beating 2016 and 2012 margins in special elections across the country, indicating a much bluer than normal climate. National Review is an avowedly partisan outlet. But good luck with that, whatever gets you through the night.
>> People like T.O.D. and Thom are the problem with today's political climate. Bloodthirsty partisanship has derailed any semblance of a functioning government, and people are paying a real price for it.
"Both sides" is a bad take for at least two reasons.
First, Republicans moved hard to the right in the 1990s and started using hardball tactics like government shutdowns to get their way. Democrats have somewhat meekly followed that model to some extent but not at the same level.
Second, opposition to Trump is not just about partisanship (though much of his support is). His policies are abhorrent but that's not the only reason the left is so fired up -- it's because his attempted and successful abuses of power, erratic and unstable nature, and potential compromise by foreign interests have us extremely concerned for the country's well-being. Plus he's also an ignorant, offensive buffoon who's embarrassing us and make us weaker in the international community. President Pence would be terrible but you wouldn't see neocons and long time Republican establishment figures, who agree with many of Trump's policies, constantly calling him out the way they do with Trump. It's a whole lot more than that he's a Republican.
He is becoming a liability to many people in power. So Koch, Big industry, Big money, etc will indeed decide when he goes. And Pence has a dangerous brain and belief system. yikes.
Mark Id like to agree but most of the middle class seems to be ok with a pussy-grabbing, racist, bankruptcy-prone idiot as our chosen leader.
>>>First, Republicans moved hard to the right in the 1990s and started using hardball tactics like government shutdowns to get their way. Democrats have somewhat meekly followed that model to some extent but not at the same level.
You're not wrong, but that's a pretty soft argument. Obstruction is now a strategy employed by both parties (to whatever degree), and it's inarguably bad for governance.
Swap out 'Trump' for 'Obama' and change a few details; you're arguing the same played out, indignation-fueld, emotional, irrational bullshit the country has been living through for almost a decade now.
The extreme divide between the Right and Left isn't good for the nation. It's time for a new era of responsibility-focused politics that recognizes the need for compromise, measured debate, and cooperation. If you think that isn't possible, you're part of the problem. If the people who represent you do the same, vote them out.
Details do matter. That's why you should take a closer look at the nature of the accusations from both sides. Largely without objective merit, as it turns out.
Of course, in doing so you'd have to jump off that indignation loop that's feeding your brain with sweet, sweet chemicals that keep you locked in like a junkie humping the needle.

Plenty of evidence, guilty pleas etc...
Emoluments alone is impeachable.
House Republifucks are the "Majority" and are cock blocking because they're "dirty" ie: Russian/Koch money and/or compromised.
>> So what more do they need?
When Mueller interviews somebody, he already has the answer with evidence and testimony in hand.
Dude, there is sooo much evidence it's unbelievable.
So to answer your question...
Mueller has to follow the law, and it's a process.
Now that he wants to talk to The Fuckstick in Chief.

Drumph and McConnell "lock-step" even though it doesn't look that way.
McConnell is busy putting in ideologue judges in hopes when they get handed their asses in 2018, the Koch agenda has long lasting effects.
Paul Ryan got $500,000 from a Koch after they passed the tax bill.
