21 people have died on that mountain in this month. Apparently, there are so many people trying to climb it, that there are human traffic jams, which is adding to the danger, and people are literally having to step over bodies on the way up and down:
I would have thought that the local officials would have enacted a quota system or lottery to keep things a little more under control. Doesn't sound like a fun time.

Wow, what a picture. Amazing you can't get away from people, even on the top of Everest.
I can't imaging waiting there wondering if my oxygen is gonna hold out before I get to the top (and back), which is within sight. Long way to go to wait in line.

Only 300 on K-2...
Try K-2 if you want to avoid the crowds- just be aware of a much higher death rate.

Napal army a few months ago went up the mountain and removed over 20,000 pounds of trash, mainly oxygen tanks, and they said that was only a small part of the haul.
WTF is wrong with people?

Oh the humanity...
Oh the humanity...
<< GENEVA—Saying they had no real problem with wealthy thrill-seekers failing in their efforts to scale the tallest mountain on earth, the entire human population admitted Tuesday that they are, in fact, completely fine with rich people dying on Mount Everest. “These guys shelling out a hundred grand to climb a 29,000-foot peak with a team of Sherpas are obviously aware that many people have died in the attempt, so they kind of know what they’re getting into, right?” said Cleveland resident Richard Warvil, echoing the sentiments of the world’s 7.7 billion people, who acknowledged the deaths of affluent amateur climbers who voluntarily ascend to heights at which oxygen stops reaching the brain don’t really upset them all that much. “At a certain point, you’re kind of bringing it on yourself. Plus, if you have that much disposable income and, of all the things you could do with that money, you choose to spend it on this—well, we’re actually okay with you dying. It may sound harsh, but we’re gonna get along just fine without you.” At press time, sources confirmed no candlelight vigils were being held at the foot of Mount Everest. >>

‘It Was Like a Zoo’: Death on an Unruly, Overcrowded Everest
Some climbers did not even know how to put on a pair of crampons, clip-on spikes that increase traction on ice, Sherpas said.
Nepal has no strict rules about who can climb Everest, and veteran climbers say that is a recipe for disaster.

Is there a DMV at the peak or something?
Ive read that there’s an area before the peak called the “death zone” and like the picture above, there are people in a traffic jam there, and they die. I gotta say I don’t feel bad for them either.
