Celebrating the memory of 4/10/82 SOLO Jerry

 4/10/1982 -
Totally formative Solo Acoustic Jerry Garcia!  2 shows, 3 sets.
(No sidekick - no Johnn Kahn - just pure Garcia, alone and artistically open - but allegedly nerve wracked!)

One of the most impactful concert experiences of my teenaged life.....

My first 3 GD experiences had acoustic opening sets (10/25, 10/26, 10/30/80 at RCMH)
So this solo acoustic thing - at the Capitol in Passaic (very close to where I grew up) made a huge dent in my musical psyche and contributed to my life long interest in acoustic music. It had gems like Going Going Gone, Sing Me Back Home, Rubin & Cherise, Stagger Lee and more...

Moved out West in '87 just in time for the warm up shows to the Lunt Fontaine (at the Warfield)
w the Almost Acoustic Band and the incredible, epic  - 1st of 3 Jerry Garcia on the Eel River Shows that included the Almost Acoustic Band.
Then later - the beautiful run of Garcia Grisman Experiences leading up to the High Church of Jerry at Squaw Valley (at 8500 feet in the Gold Coast Bowl!)....

LONG LIVE JERRY GARCIA & THE GRATEFUL DEAD!

Epic night. I had great seats to this one.

Thanks for the reminder.

Just beautiful.

Any chance you two met each other way back when? Shared some hash in the men’s room or something?

thanks for the links

Unclear if I've met Bluelight...?

I was born in Manhattan and grew up in a little town about 2 miles north of the George Washington Bridge on the Palisades of the Hudson.

My dad was born in Passaic and grew up in Clifton so going to the Cap - even though it was a totally crappy neighborhood, wasn't too daunting for me when I was between 15 and 17.

I had already been to several JGB electric, Allman Bros and Jorma w Vital Parts shows by the time this Acoustic Jerry thing happened.

The memories are murkier but crazy to ponder when compared to fresher thoughts of all the Dead Tours I did back in the day.

Wasn't this show to raise $ due to getting busted doing drugs or something along those lines.

I was bummed as we were driving back from Rochester we stopped at The Capital to drop people off but I was not able to attend I needed the ride back to New Paltz.

Saw an acoustic show a few weeks later at The Beacon which was awesome. Hearing Sing Me Back Home was surreal.

Did you say you went to the Robert Hunter show at the The Other End in May of '82? Had to have met there.

Today I re-mastered the audio to both the early & late shows of the Jerry solo 4.10.82 shows via Audacity, by boosting the bass & letting the software align the harmonics better. The audio now has more dynamic range (sounds larger). Sounds nice.

I then re-did a slide show starting with the the best known photograph of Jerry from that show and some of my memorabilia to start it off.

Overdubbed the audio, made a video of it & posted it up at YouTube -

It's 2 hours & 22 minutes long. Hahaha

And yes - I was at the The Other End Show in May of '82! (Courtesy of a pal's NJ DL which at the time did not have photographs!  I was 17!)

You got it Trebs!

Oh yeah-I was front row dead center for the early show and it was fun when Jer jumped at the reaction when he asked "How's everybody doing."

So cool!!
